Title: Quick question re CPC Plus games
Post by: Rurnin Bubber on 17:48, 30 September 22
Hi all,

I found the list of all the CPC Plus exclusive games, but what's confusing me is, some of them are labeled as "cart" and others are not. Burnin' Rubber is obviously a Plus exclusive, and was only released on cart, but the list I mention doesn't label the game as "cart". So my question is this, were there ANY Plus exclusives that were disk only, or were they all cart based?

List is here - https://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Category:CPC_Plus_Games

Cheers

Some of those seem a little dubious, Puzznic and Italia 90 weren't Plus games - they've just had overscan loading screens or palette hacks added on more recently, so it depends on what you're after.

Also Stryker and the Crypts of Trogan seems to be missing from that list. Or was it a cassette only release?

Cheers for that, specifically I'm after any Plus exclusive games that came on disc...but original period releases only really. I have a C4CPC, so I'm just wondering if there's any Plus releases that were only on disc?

The only ones that I can think of that were disc only are Space Gun and Fluff. There was also Burger Party which is missing from @Jean-Marie's list, but it's a homebrew/public domain release and wasn't sold commercially.

Yeah, Space Gun, Fluff, Prehistoric II and Stryker are all the Plus games that didn't come on cartridge from back in the day. Or at least as far as I can remember. L'Aigle D'Or Le Retour maybe did too, but not being an English release I hadn't heard of it.

Keep in mind that when the Plus range was firstly introduced, the extra features of the new hardware were locked ONLY for cartridge!!
You couldn't use the ASIC chip by using disc or tape.

Not until the famous unlock sequence was found.... ;)

Amstrad certainly tried to push that line and the documentation on the Plus hardware had rules that you weren't supposed to use the unlock code on non cartridge software.

Kind of fell by the wayside by the time GX consoles were selling for £5, which was about a month after launch though.
