Does anyone know what data separator chip is used in the spectrum +3, if it is the sed 9420, I will buy a spectrum +3 to remove the data separator to convert my 464+ to a 6128+.

Thanks for any assistance.

As you can see, it has the SED9420 data separator. But I think taking it from a +3 would be quite expensive...

steve

I cannot find any other source for these chips so if I can get a spectrum +3 for £20 or less, I will be satisfied.

I missed a real bargain on ebay a couple of days ago, a CPC464, colour monitor, DDI-1, FD-1, ram pack, lightpen, multiface two, loads of books, tapes and some disks all for £26.00, I am still annoyed about missing that.

Gryzor

A +3 for under 20 quid? Absolutely no way, or I'd already have a few...

steve

I have just bought 3 NC200s, if they use the SED 9420, I might have to cannibalize one of them.

Gryzor

Curse you, then. The NC200 is a beautiful machine, deserving a better fate >:(

If I had got this I might have used the chip from the DDI-1.
But I probably won't upgrade my 464+ to disk, I might try and put an SD card in there, I have other machines if I actually need to read a 3" disk.

Well, as I said in other thread some time ago, a guy built a circuit to replace the SED2490 in a Spectrum +2A by using common components: http://aleasoft.iespana.es/sinclair/dostotres.html

Miguel, I get a warning from my antivirus program when I try to access that site, can you contact the site maintainer?

steve

@MiguelSky, Thank you, I remember that circuit and if I actually do get around to upgrading the 464+, I may use it.
I was just thinking that getting a SED9420 chip might be easier as I would just solder it in it's rightful place.
That spectrum +3 sold for £17, although my bid was £15, so I nearly had it.
