Darn, there was an auction and I saw it only after it ended :( Does anyone have a copy of Trantor (disk) they would like to sell me? Please? :)

robcfg

That is a really interesting item indeed. Does it come with the tape with the song "The Fight"?

By the bay, do we have that song "dumped" in the wiki? If not, I can uopload it in a few days...  ;D

Gryzor

Ahhh I think it was uploaded in the Zone in the old days, but it's not here. So yeah, it would be cool!

Damn damn damn, it was one of my favorite games, and the auction went pretty cheap, too! So what say you, feel like parting with it? ehhhh? ;)

Axelay

I still have that Trantor music file from then, it was a 9MB wav uploaded by Cholo according to the file with it.
Should I be uploading it to the Trantor page, and if so, how do you upload files?  (had a quick look and saw nothing obvious)

On the Wiki, you have to log-in and then the "Upload File" link is on the bottom right of the webpage in very pale grey ink.

Direct link: http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Special:Upload

Linking instructions for pages within the Wiki are included on the Upload File page.

Ah, I see, thanks.  That seems a good way to make sure it doesnt happen by accident!  ;)

Anyway, done, but probably needs making respectable or something.

Great find but awful recording.

I edited it as best I could (changed it to 16-bit, declipped, DC bias reset and removed hiss) and put an MP3 up on the Trantor page as well.

Gryzor

Yeah... was going to say that 9MB for a wav means it's quite bad... it's better now, but it lacks bass, and it's too high on volume... But thanks, Axelay, much appreciated :)

If anyone's got the tape, could they record it again?

It's declipped and normalised to 99% so really shouldn't be too loud...

I can add a bass filter if you want (attached).

robcfg

The quality on the original tape wasn't too good anyway.

I'll try to do a nice recording of my tape this weekend and post it here.

Gryzor

Well, normalisation to itself doesn't have much meaning :D But anyhow, it does sound better now - though I'd really like to see if Rob can do any better :)

robcfg

Well, I found my tape!

It's a pity that the sound quality is so bad, but here you have the wav file (so you can convert and modify it anyway you want): http://www.mediafire.com/?l0lk330f364ajhg

I have also a MSX tape of Trantor, but doesn't have any music...

Gryzor

My, that's an awful recording...! I think redbox did a great job...

robcfg

You know, God and I we have a deal, he doesn't do audio recordings and I don't do miracles  ;D

It's not that the recording is bad, the original tape sounds that awful. I think I'll ask some friends if their copies sounds also so bad.

As a standalone recording, it's better than the one Axelay found.

But it does have some considerable tape hiss and oddly for a mono recording it has quite a deep EQ distortion.  Did you have a high-cut filter on when recording (Dolby B/C or something)?  I'm guessing not because of the tape hiss but it does have something altering the EQ.  I thought the stereo recording you did would be more helpful in rebuilding the audio but infact I've had more success with the older one.

I got really close to building a stereo mix, but the bloody rhythm guitar keeps drifting with the vocals when I get the bass down the middle and drums on left and right.  An alternate mix has it all panned out left and right which works better but doesn't sound as good as you don't have the bass pumping in the middle.  I wanted a nice stereo mix so Gryzor could cruise around Athens and have it blaring from his car stereo  :D

Awww man, that's nice of you :D I should also grow long rock'n'roll hair and wear some leather, too! :)

Hey,

I managed to record another copy of the music tape of Trantor at deepfb's place.

This sound much better than mine... Please take a look! http://www.mediafire.com/file/vvkvhe5855oprfg/Trantor-Musica.wav

Gryzor

Yeah, it does sound better I think... I'll make it into an mp3 and up it to the wiki page.

NOW, anyone has a copy of Trantor they'd like to sell me? :)
