Playing about with this today:

I haven't had time to work thru it thoroughly but so far it does fine.

Ooh nice find!
I mentioned this here a while back: Dithertron / 8bitworkshop (https://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/programming/dithertron-8bitworkshop/msg226382/#msg226382). The whole online IDE is rather marvellous: 8bitworkshop (https://8bitworkshop.com/)
Lucan portrait of Leonardo da Vinci
What you see here is a black & white photograph of a part of the above painting which has been converted (using DITHERTON) to a mode 1 CPC screen.
The screen is then displayed using the VIDI Rom and I cycle thru the colours to find a good match for the B&W photograph.
Near the end of the video I reload the screen with a previously prepared palette file to show what I think is a good approximation.

Not emulated - original hardware and software.
Please note that the aspect ratio for this video is 16:9 but the CPC monitor has
an aspect ratio of 4:3 so you may wish to adjust your viewing device accordingly.
It's D I T H E R T R O N (https://8bitworkshop.com/dithertron/#), not "Ditherton". The latter sounds like something from English politics
