Title: 6128+ Keyboard Membrame
Post by: tibbs1972 on 20:57, 16 May 25
I wonder who the genius was who came up with Keyboard Membrame, back in the 80's, Ribbon Cable did the job.  ::)

I've just got my 6128+ back together. The Disc Drive and Cartridge are working and I got it into Basic, also Burning' Rubber worked.
Amazing how long Cartidges work, I've got Pacman and Space Invaders for the Atari 2600. A bit of work with a Fibre Glass Pen on the edge connector and away they went.

Unfortunately, there are many cracks and splits on the 6128+ Keyboard Membrame at the edge connectors.
I've got a new Membrame on order, but I thought I'd try some Conductive Paint. I've got a Bottle on order.
It can't damage the Membrame anymore than it is already. It's also an experiment for future repairs.

Looking forward to testing the Paint when it arrives.

Hi All,

The Conductive Paint worked on the 6128+ Keyboard Membrame at the Edge connection.
I managed to peel the cover on the Membrame with a Craft Knife and add some Paint to the damaged tracks.
All the Keys are now fully functional.

The 6128+ is now fully restored and cleaned.
I tested it with an Arnold 5 Diagnostic Rom and it all checks out.
Just waiting for the Joypad through the post, then it's another system complete.

Regards

Did you take some pictures from the repair itself?

That would be interesting to see.

Unfortunately I didn't take an actual picture of the paint job, as it was a bit messy and I was concentrating on getting it done.
I decided to paint all the way across the bottom of the Membrame and scrape between the lines with a ruler and small screw driver.
The Paint was dry in an hour. It seemed to work ok.

That's a tidy-looking 6128+ you have now.

I had to resort to getting a 464+ and sticking extra memory in (which is fortunately very easy). Mine also needed a new membrane; I should have tried the conductive paint idea.

I've used conductive paint on the spectrum+2a membrane as well, and worked well.  It does seem the paint I had was not conductive until it had dried.
