Hi all,

As my dad disposed of my CTM644 years ago, I will need to use a different power supply with my CPC 464.

I checked this page on the wiki (https://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Power_Supply_for_CPC_and_CPC_plus), and then ordered one of these (https://www.qoltec.com/product/qoltec-plug-in-power-supply-10w-5v-2a-5521).

I measured the output with my multimeter and found the voltage is 5.27. Is this within the tolerance of the CPC?

I also intend to buy a surge protector.

But it's also compatible with CPC 464 / CPC 664.

That's interesting because that PSU has 4.2A for the 5V because the wiki says (https://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Power_Supply_for_CPC_and_CPC_plus#Power_requirements) it should be 2A. I guess the 464 would only pull the current it needs like when you charge a mobile phone with a USB charger meant for a larger device like a tablet.

So would it then pull more current for add on boards? If so, I wonder what the maximum safe current would be.

The information on the Wiki page specifies the minimum amount your PSU should have. In theory, the CPC needs less than 2A, but many (cheap) PSUs do not really deliver what they are supposed to deliver, so with 2A you should be on the safe side.

I also use 4A PSUs for 464s and that should generally be fine. With add-on-boards you often need more power, so 3A or 4A is not a bad idea.

You can even connect it to PC PSUs that can deliver 20A and more on the 5V line, the CPC of course will only consume what it needs. But there is one issue: As long as your CPC is perfectly working, you are good. But in case you have an (undetected) short in your CPC, it will draw everything, the full 20A will run through your CPC and probably burn the traces on the motherboard.

Thanks @eto I have opted to return the 2A version I ordered and buy a 4A one instead.
