Title: CPC 464 - RGB image wobble
Post by: gladders on 10:38, 29 October 15
Hi there,

Having repaired the keyboard I have a somewhat less urgent but still perplexing problem with my screen image.

Lacking a massive and heavy official Amstrad monitor, I bought the SCART adaptor for my flatscreen TV off eBay which combines with the power supply. The image is clear and crisp, but it has a persistent 'wobble', where the whole image jerks half a centimetre to the left, and then back, approximately every second or half-second or so.

I know little about the mechanics of this but I have heard it's something to do with sync? As the image was never designed for a standard (or even modern) TV. How do I go about stopping this?

I've heard of sync-strippers for SCART cables but they require soldering and busting open stuff and I'm not confident at all with that. What's the straight dope, chaps?

Cut the RGB select pin on the SCART and put a 1.5v battery across it (negative to the SCART ground, positive to the pin)

Or wire the cable like this, with a capacitor and you don't need a battery: TV SCART cable - CPCWiki (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/TV_SCART_cable#Alternative_RGB_Wiring)

I don't know if this is the appropriate place to request this but would someone be willing to fashion one for me? :)

And I presume this includes a slot for the power supply to go in...

Or perhaps I could post the SCART-PSU I have and someone could alter it...

Sorry. I meant I have the set of wires which combines the power supply and SCART into one bundle. Separate plug next to the DIN port on the Amstrad supplies power and is attached to the cable that goes to the TV.

Ok. So why don't you just edit that cable yourself? It would cost the price of a new cable to send that anywhere and back.

...yeah looking more closely at the article you posted, it warns against novices trying it, and I can't even understand what I'm looking at...

Ok. But maybe you should ask someone local to you (Roy-bates perhaps) to keep the postage costs to a minimum.

Gotta learn sometime. No good sitting on your hands with old kit. You will be forced to get your hands dirty sometime.

Couldn't get the cap method working with the Plus. Plain 464 might be different.

Whether the cap method works or not will also depend on the TV it's connected to.
