Title: cpc 464 tape counter assembly
Post by: deadmeat on 12:53, 08 December 24
Hi,

I'm finishing to fix some minor issues in my first Amstrad CPC 464 so I'm not really familiar with it.
I'm now focusing on the tape deck: it came in with a missing counter belt and the counter itself was completely stuck, corroded with the reset button broken.

I've 3d printed a replacement reset button, cleaned carefully, removed all oxidation, lubricated and got it working again. However when I installed it back in I've noticed that the wheel was touching the metal of the tape deck mount making it very hard to turn. I've disassembled the wheel and noticed that there is a plastic spacer, removing it I could push up the wheel a little bit on the shaft to prevent it from scratching and with a new belt the counter is working perfectly.

However I'm curious if this is a factory installation and maybe it got deformed over time (so I should file it a little and reinstall) or something the previous owner installed for unknown reasons. In the picture the arrow points to the small spacer I've removed. Can someone post a closeup of the tape deck counter assembly or check if this is factory?
