Title: CPC 464 with noisy glitchy volume

hello all, my first post so go easy on me,


I got an original CPC 464 with noisy glitchy volume control - Whats the best way to solve this issue, replacing  it - if so could anyone pass on a link to a walk through etc

I had the same problem. No need to replace. It just needs a good cleanup with a contact cleaner.

Open your 464, dissasemble the volume knob and give it a good bath with the contact cleaner using the small tube (red in the picture). Make sure that a good amount of liquid gets inside the knob, you can remove the plastic wheel to make it easier. When the liquid gets inside put the wheel back in and move it from max to min for some time to clean the dust inside.

While you are in there give the entire lot a good clean including the tape mechanisms, and replace the tape belt if need be. Remember not to over tighten the screws as the 30 year old plastic is very brittle.

thanks for advice, been and got the spray, just need to go into garage for hammer and spanners now, then i will atempt not to kill my machine lol

okay its open, and looks damn clean inside considering, must have been well looks after.


How long should i leave it to dry off before putting back together and trying

Should go very quickly. If you have the right stuff its nearly pure alcohol. So if you can't see it or smell it, go ahead.
