Hey!

My CPC 6128 has been displaying a flickering image occasionally for some time now. Today, it (almost) completely stopped working.

I have already tested various cables, so I'm sure the issue lies with the CPC itself.

Here are two videos:

Output OSSC:

Output SCART TV:

I appreciate any tips or even a repair / replacement offer.

Thx! :)

I guess if this was me, I would first check the RGB socket solder joints and possibly reflow them. While doing this, I would probably also check the power connector solder joints. At least I would do this before looking any deeper.

Thank you!

I fired the CPC up this morning and there were no problems.

But after reconnecting the Dandanator the output flickering started again.

How many amps can your PSU deliver?

It may be marginal for CPC usage, but start to be on the short side when expansions are installed.

So the problem only occurs when the Dandanator is connected?

Maybe give the edge connector a good clean with an old ink eraser and some Isopropyl alcohol.

It worked before with no prob. But I can check the PSU and try another one.

Yes! Will try it now. THX!

Now the error occurred even without the Dandanator.

So, I checked the cables.
I'm using this one!

I briefly jiggled the connections, and the image disappeared again.

However, now everything seems to be firmly in place again, and the image is back.

But it's true:
Cables, Dandanator, and HxC Floppy Adapter all draw power.

They are good cables, I use Retro Computer Shack a lot for cables and never had any problems.

The fact that you "jiggled" the connections and now it is ok, for me, still points to a problem with the RGB connector. Most likely the solder joints, and I have had to reflow the joints on a couple of occasions for different CPCs.

I have not had problems with the RGB connector itself on a CPC, although I have had to replace one on a BBC Micro.

But I guess it could also be the power connector.

viddi

Mainly "jiggled" the PSU adapter connection.

If the problem reappears I´ll check the solder joints.

Thanks again!
