Hello!
One of my CPC is shutting himself down:
- Generally happens after 20 minutes or so.
- More likely to occur when I save on the Albireo.
- Red LED is still on, but doesn't respond even to hardware reset. No chips doesn't seem too hot.
- Other issues include: whooshing noise when I switch it on, speaker volume is quite low even at max.
- I've tried with two different MP-2F, doesn't change anything.
It sounds like a capacitor issue, but I don't have the tools to diagnose nor the skill to fix!
Another 6128 is randomly crashing.
I was wondering if you know any old-school electronic shop who would be able to carry the repair?
Have you tried another power supply. It sounds like the PSU might be failing or going into thermal protection.
Bryce.

So red LED stays on? When you say hardware reset, is that a mod or do you mean if you subsequently power it off and on again the CPC does not boot?
Thank you!
Yep 2 different MP-2F -> Same result.
Hard-reset: Bus-reset via Mother-X4. Switching off and on makes the CPC work again for a while!
I now remember that I already had the issue with this CPC, which suffers a dirty "double-crtc" mod.
I'll try to remove the culprit.
The question remains for my other 6128.
Sorry what's a "dirty double-crtc mod"?
Is it stable without any expansions fitted?
Not sure if one of the CEX stores would do it. Might be worth trying the store at Rathbone Place?
If it's really broken I can put you in contact with local retro computer repairers. Don't bring a CPC to any general repair place.
Bryce.

I would love that, thank you!

CRTC 0 welded on top on CRTC 1 with a switch to enable one or the other!
I missed this before, but if you don't find anyone else, I'd be happy to recap a CPC for you (assuming I have the right caps on hand) - I live in London and it's the least I could do given the use I've gotten out of Orgams :)
