Title: CTM 640 - Dim display
Post by: martins on 22:55, 16 September 24
Hi,

I've just got my hands on my first CPC 464 and CTM 640 and loving my new toy. My impression is the monitor is a bit dim, brightness is at full and it takes a few mins to warm up to a semi-acceptable brightness. I've cleaned the brightness pot with contact cleaner so the adjustment is smooth. Is there another pot I can adjust internally to boost the brightness or should I be looking to replace some caps or other warn out components?

Thanks in advance

Martin

Did you try to connect the CPC to a normal PAL CRT TV? This to rule out possible weak signals from the CPC itself.

No sadly I don't have the cables to connect the CPC464 to another screen, but I have connected another device to the CTM 640 (an Amiga 1200 and Spectrum +2) but both are a similar (lack of) brightness.

right, listen/read carefully

turn the brightness pot to the middle most position(the one on the outside of the monitor for main brightness)
then, set the internal sub bright control to the desired level

you will need a small screwdriver for the internal pot, thats about it
obviously you do this with the set on and a computer connected so you can see what you are doing

Thanks Roy - I've had a look in the service manual and spotted VR402 - does that sound right please?
