Title: Datacorder drama
Post by: Homr836 on 20:25, 16 April 17
Honourable knowledge sources,

In my quest to get the tape drive working on my non-gash 464, I replaced the belt as I thought that was the original problem. Turns out, it wasn't. Here's my symptoms:

Press play - left hand spool turns due to the pinch roller pulling the tape through. Nothing/veeeeerrrry slow on the right hand.
FF - very erratic movement. Nowhere near as fast as RW.
RW - No dramas at all.

I've stripped it out to watch the cogs during the functions and noticed, if I apply the tiniest amount of pressure on the right hand spool, it stops altogether which led me to ask this question:

Is there a "clutch" on the right hand spool to prevent damage to the drive in the event of a jam, or has something broken and it needs replacing/glueing back together?

I've come to the conclusion that this may be the problem.

Is there any way I can re-attach the spool to the bottom gear? I've tried superglue but the spring eventually gets the better of it and it just explodes again. Failing that, is there anywhere I can get a replacement?
