Title: Dead 464
Post by: Iwantgames:) on 13:19, 08 January 19
I get the grey screen of death :(

Checked Z80 - works in my VG5000 so should be ok

Checked voltages - good 5v everywhere

Pulled the 40010 and then the 464 gets no picture so I think that is doing something so should be ok

Shorted the pins to bypass on off switch, same grey screen

My next guess is RAM issue?

Hello and welcome to the forum!

You're right that it's probably a RAM issue. Leave it on for a while and see if you're lucky enough for one/some of them to warm up.

One word of warning: Just because the GA 40010 does something, it doesn't mean it's not bad. So it could be that, but my money is on a RAM chip.

I did leave it on for about 10min and was still cool. Should I leave on longer? I have new RAM and sockets ordered. Really hoping I can get it fixed!

Oh also it was working fine. I had played Operation Alexandra for like 45min or so and turned off. Loaded up Hired Hare, music plued for a second and then froze. Turned off and that's when I got grey screen

Nah, 10 minutes is plenty time for some bad chips to get really hot. Good luck with the memory replacement. Let us know how it goes.
