I finally got around to installing a Gotek drive in my french 6128, the one that got fried.
I managed to do this without damaging the casing of the CPC so it is still original, that will make the purists slightly happy.
I used industrial quality 3M double sided tape that says on the packet it is for sticking things to brickwork in the weather outside.
I bought it at Bunnings Hardware store here in Australia.
First I swapped the 5v and 12v leads of the power plug and plugged in a 26 pin to 34 pin adapter.
I did have to damage the Gotek casing a little, see photos.
After cutting the gotek I put the lid on and jammed it into the top of the CPC case then pressed the case back into position which aligned it perfectly on the tape. I had to gouge a piece of plastic out so the front screw head was clear, next time I will use a counter sunk screw.
I screwed the Gotek board in directly with no cover because the top cover stopped the CPC case going all the way down and also trimmed the front beasel sides of the Gotek for the same reason. Just chamfer each side in about 1-2 mm from halfway up looking at it from the front.
Don't know why Amstrad made the insides so angular, aren't the drives square boxed shaped?
The aluminium support I used was from an old PSU heatsink and it measures 15mm high, its taped to the bottom of the case.
I carefully drilled into this with the case on so so that I could put some long screws in from the end to hold the case.
The black plastic gap filler is an old PC case 3" drive slot cover cut to fit. Remember them?
It has the right texture and colour to match the drive. I hot glued it in place after some trimming.
The best part about this is that you only need 5v to run your 6128
You can disconnect the 12v cable hanging out the back if you want to.

Very neat. Now you just need to buy yourself a USB stick so that your daughter can have hers back. :D

The gay usb stick was the cheapest 8gb stick I could buy locally in a shop (Officeworks) AU$6.
I have ordered some micro SDcard adapters that are a micro usb wireless keyboard dongle size.
The 16gb micro SDcards are cheap now, about AU$8.
I need 12gb for my Amstrad software collection and my Amiga collection needs 15gb.
I want something that does not stick out like my daughters usb stick.

You hardly notice them, they're reliable and long-lasting (I have one attached to my car's audio system for a couple of years now, rain or shine), only downside is I've found they're difficult to pull out - they're a very tight fit.

I have just returned 3 "Cruzer Fit" 8 Gig USB2 that won't work in a Gotek Drive.
I have other Sandisk Sticks that work ??
