Title: M4 board makes Amstrad CPC464 go into reset loop
Post by: makerhacks on 21:02, 12 January 25
When the board is attached the CPC just constantly resets with or without SD card inserted.

The only thing that stops it is pressing the Hacks button or removing the board.

It's a long time since I dug out the machine or the M4 so I can't really remember what to do.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the CPCWiki!

What firmware version are you using?

I got that error after updating to a version before the hack menu, which is v2.0.4.

Downloading the upgrade file and putting it into the SD card should install that version and hopefully get rid of the problem.

Cheers,
Rob

That worked thank you!

I thought it hadn't worked (because cat showed "press play then any key" rather than a file listing) until I edited the config and entered the wifi details in there and tried different IP addresses, and now I am getting the web front end :)

Hopefully once I manage to update basic I should be good to go!

Oh I spoke too soon, it does bring up the web front end but after a few seconds it becomes unresponsive. For example I can bring up the file upload screen but when I try to upload it then goes to "http://192.168.0.103/files.shtml is unreachable."

Sorry for the extra posts, I can't see how to edit my previous replies  :picard:

It seems the board is not communicating with the CPC464 because my past photographs show the m4 version but even when it stops resetting it no longer shows the version number just the regular basic v1 screen

Is there a way to "factory reset" the m4 board?

there isnt a way to reset persay... just reinstall the firmware....

but im guessing its a connection issue...
..ill be that guy and say it....
make sure the edge connector is clean and has no oxidization, also clean the m4 side

ive found a can of electrical contact cleaner spray is worth every cent!.. giving both sides a quick spray usually helps the connection..
