Hi All
Mother X4 Schematic and Board Layout Wanted.
If you have a link that would be helpful.
I only measure 1.6 Volts at the point where the Electrolytic should be fitted ?
I have X-Mem working OK (? ? On 1.6 Volts ? ?)
X-Mass is not working.
If i remove the X-Mass the voltage does not change ???
I have not tried an external Power supply yet.
Thanks Ray
If I plug into the Mother X4 a Known working 5 Volt Supply (Retro Computer Shack),
and power on The CPC6128 it won't wake up (No Boards fitted to the Mother X4)
Remove the external 5 Volt Power Supply and switch back on all OK.
Mildly confused
Ray
I will get Less Confused if I Plug the Cable into the CORRECT Connector.
@Admin do we have an Idiot's Bin Please ( 1 Week would be enough )
The cable was plugged into the """ PASS THROUGH CONNECTOR """.
I Now have 4.25 At the Test Point.
I get the "Richard Cranium " award for this.
Ray
I am still UNABLE to Format the DOM using xmass.exe under SymbOS.
Either with Just the CPC Power Supply.
And the with the External Power Supply Connected.
Ray
Was your X-Mass recognized with external PSU connected?
At mine, BDOS didn't recognize the X-Mass if external PSU is connected. It works only without external PSU.
@Fessor (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1495)
It is not recognised with just the Monitor Power supply or with the Monitor and the External Power Supply.
I think that i have an Unwell X-Mass (Board), I have tried a second DOM and this also won't work.
Ray
What is really strange, is the fact that I have sent all the X-MASS boards formated and tested.
Can you try to format it with BDOS, then with SymbOS?
@Fessor (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1495): I can't explain why it should not work with a PSU connected. :o

Please, what is the second DOM model connected to it?
(By the way, I'm going to send you a X-MASS replacement)

Ah, thought It was only mine, or PSU related.
Bdos can't recognize my X-Mass with external PSU connected too.

The second DOM is the same as you supplied Blue 128 Meg 44pin (Female).
Photo below Both Have Master/Slave Switch M - S (Top Right hand Side) both switched to Master
Ray
@Tot0
Ok Now that i have the Connections Correct, YES i will try with BDOS.
Ray
@TotO (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=290)
As before:-
BonnyDos and the 6128 Plus X-Mem and X-Mass
I am able to install the 3 BonnyDos Roms OK into the X-mem.
I have put them into 4-5-6
BUT when i Reboot (After full power down) or just reset.
The machine locks up at the BonnyDos Line.Shown in the Photo.
I have tried this on 2 -- 6128 Machines ??
NO Other roms are in the X-mem Just the 3 BDos roms.
Thanks Ray
OK. Thank you. (sorry, I'm not at home to see what I have sent to you)
I do my best to send a new X-MASS to no more wasting your time. 8)
@TotO (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=290)
Ok when you get back will be OK.
Thanks Ray
Hmmm. Problem must be on side of Bonnydos(?)
As one can see, Bonnydos doesn't identify the device, but from Basic the identification of the DOM can be read...
*edit*
To some Point...seems that the Device is in 16bit Mode...
The Part with the Name of the Device should read "801170 nIoniDksC ro.p- E CD04001 82BM" and not "817 noikCr.-EC0018B"
@Gryzor (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1) (Please delete, hat clicked on quote and not on modify)
Sure, if for an unknown raison the X-MASS fail to set the DOM in 8bit mode, that will not work. >:(
Hmmm...
Activated the 8-bit-mode with out &fd09,1:out &fd0f,&ef and the Device then stays in this mode (reset-button, call 0, switching Computer on/off) until a complete poweroff.
To bad that there is no room in the bdos-rom to patch this in to get the x-mass correctly initialized.

Would it fit in the CPC LowerROM? If the XMass wasn't connected it would just have no effect, so there should be no problem leaving it there.
Bryce.
Is random and sometime the 8bit mode is properly set by itself? :-X
(return the X-MASS so I can provide you a solution)

That should cause problems with SF2.
Then link it to something like start-up with shift key held down?
Bryce.
The idea is to be transparent from the software side.
I definitively prefert to fix the board. But ACMEDOS can do that to be secure.

Try the IMPformat solution:
X-MASS, a mass-storage expansion for all CPC. (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/news-events/x-mass-a-mass-storage-expansion-for-all-cpc/msg121734/#msg121734)

Thanks for the offer, but i think its needless as its IMHO the task of a Devicedriver to initialize the Hardware it uses and set the Mode it needs to be on the secure side and not of the Hardware itself.
You can init it by software as you want, after the boot.
But, by default the drive must be 8bit when you power on.
That allow to be compatible with SymbOS or BDOS. It is part of the X-MASS design.

Welcome Back.
Thanks. Mom died eventually, so I don't feel much like working in the lab. Prefer to be distracted.
Will try the solution for Ast tonite by myself. Curious already.

Its a port of the SymbOS xmass.EXE btw. I am afraid it's a hardware issue...
@Fessor (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1495)
This is what i Get after running the commands.
Ray
Are you looking for trouble again?
Xmass.exe and IMPformat do both the same. If one is not working the other one won't as well. Not really hard to understand.

Interesting what you call "attacking":

Yes, your SymbOS is so great! We all know that now! :picard2:
Why are these annoying issues with you here repeating again and again? It just suck.
ditto!
Not again ...
Please be calm friends!!!
@TFM (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=179): Sorry for your mother... May she could repose in peace...
Thank you very much.
Listen, guys.
While I'm truly and deeply sorry for anyone's loved ones passing away, and in this case TFM's mother, because this issue touches me deeply;
I don't go around insulting people when I'm feeling low. What's more, I've got my own, *very* real problems to deal with, so that I don't have either the will *or* the time to deal with moderation issues.
Combining the two points, the next time I get a report about such a post as the ones I was forced to delete not five minutes ago (and, people, please do help me by reporting any inappropriate posts), I'm going to place TFM's posts under moderation, and you may consider this as a warning for a further, longer ban.
That's all for now, thanks for listening.
Thank's Gryzor.
EDIT: I know I should take a break here anyway. Just tried to provide a link, not to piss off somebody.
Hi @TFM (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=179) , I'd like to say that I'm sorry for your loss.
Please take your time to recover.
@TFM (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=179) I'm very sorry for your loss. I know is a hard situation. Take your time to recover.
Thanks guys. Good to see that somebody out there has feelings. Thank you very much.
My condolences. @TFM, this must be very hard for you.
Thanks, it is.
