Title: Teamdrive: Eject button of 5.25 floppy is locked
Post by: Schlumpf on 18:51, 18 April 20
Hello,

I have connected my CPC equipment after more than 10 years to play some old funny games.

I'm using the Krebs Electronic TEAMDRIVE with 5.25" floppies. After a while playing I noticed that the eject button above the floppy slot is blocked. The floppy in the drive cannot be ejected and removed.

I have opened the drive housing and did see that the mechanism to lock and unlock the floppy seems to be mechanical blocked. The is a flat black hook with some springs at the top side which controls the lock/unlock.
I tried to clean the dust around the hook, but without any improvement.

Not all details of the mechanism are clear to me so for. May be there is a mechanical damage or wear out.

Did anyone else have the same TEAMDRIVE and the same fault?

Could anyone send some photos of the mechanics?

Thanks in advance

Schlumpf

No idea, but you should also try the new funny games...  8)
Bist Du der Schlumpf vom Frankenteam?

Hi Schlumpf!

Great to read something from you! Lang ist's her.
Further investigations of my issue showed that a spring seems to have a big impact to the lock/eject mechanism. See the picture of locked state.
It's not clear to me if the spring is the the right position.

Hi Schlumpf,
is the drive powered up in that picture? The blue bit at the back is the solenoid that lifts the head, but it's not actuated. The rest of that mechanism will only work once the head has lifted from the disk surface.

Bryce.

Edit: Here's a picture of what should happen:
The blue solenoid (S) pushes outwards (if it's working), this lifts that golden coloured bar which in turn lifts the head from the disk and turns that other spring you point to which releases the eject mechanism. You should be able to lift the golden bar manually to release the mechanism.

Bryce,
the solenoid was a great proposal to investigate further on.It seems to be that the solenoid does not fully lift the head mechanics after stop of motor.
The eject mechanism works when I push a little with a screwdriver.
I'm not sure if I can remove the solenoid for cleaning. Maybe dust will hinder the movement.Let's see.
Thanks,Schlumpf

I have analyzed the solenoid. It will be powered, but is not moving the full length since the contact surface to the lever arm is worn out (plastics seems to be melted/dissolved). I do not see any chance to fix on the solenoid.
Now, I'm thinking about modifications on the mechanics to make the solenoid obsolete. The load/eject of floppies could work when I remove the small copper lever of fix it in a certain position. See my picture with screwdriver.

I will keep you posted.

Try spraying it with WD40, that will fix it.

WD40 did not help since the the tip of the mechanical plunger is deformed and needs to be replaced.

I'm trying to find a solenoid as a spare part. The type is TDS-05B (12V DC).
At first glance it seems to difficult to find a supplier in Germany.
I've found one in UK, but they delivery to UK and Norway only:
https://e-service.co.uk/product/104071-solenoid-assy-r-uba10-tds-05b-496r-179-se/ (https://e-service.co.uk/product/104071-solenoid-assy-r-uba10-tds-05b-496r-179-se/)

Meanwhile, I did a mechanical workaround with a adhesive tape to fix the small copper lever in a certain position. The eject works with that, hopefully until I got a spare solenoid.

If you somehow get them to Germany, I would need four of them too. Let of know please if they are somewhere to buy.

There are many very similar solenoids available. Check out ebay for 12V Push solenoids and find one with similar size/mounting holes: This perhaps?
Make sure it's a push type with the correct stroke (distance the plunger moves).

While searching for similar solenoids, I have found a classic computing forum with a thread about the BASF 6138 floppy which is also assembled in the CPC Teamdrive.

They have got the same solenoid issue and fixed that with a M3 screw.I did the same fix and cut a M3 thread into the lifting mechanics. My Teamdrive floppy load/eject is now working again.  ;) ;) ;)
Thank to all for spending good ideas to me!
Pic of my fix attached. The screw is not quite at a right angle, but the mechanism works as desired.
