Title: The end of my CM14?
Post by: Skunkfish on 18:46, 19 March 21
There I was, enjoying a nice afternoon of gaming on 6128+ when suddenly the image on the monitor goes almost white I think there was a slight noise of some sort.

The end result is, that the image looks incredibly bright, and there's a sharp white line towards the top of the image, going across at a slight angle....

Has my monitor had it?

The first image is with the CPC switched on, the second image is with the CPC switched off.

No. As long as you have a white picture you don't have a fried LOPT. Most likely a transistor or capacitor has just died and those are all replaceable.

Phew, thanks Bryce. I was worried it might be something terminal.
Just need to find someone local to have a look as I don't deal with voltages over 5 (ok, I might stretch to 12 at a push)

Send me a PM and let me know what corner of the Island you're on and I'll recommend someone. I know quite a few Hardware repair guys over in the UK.

im going to call this repaired,a few cold solder joinjts on the brightness pot and a funky capacitor in the sub bright control c440
i spoke too soon the first time and it didnt pass a burn in test :-X  and it went bad as i was typing a message, but it seems to be fixed now

edit: i meant to say soak test, instead of burn in(was playing the game),my appologie, its to find any unexpected faults while running like scratchy pots and faults that develope over time

That looks crisp and stable. I'd call that a win.
