It's possible to connect the DOM disk to the PC whit a adapter IDE 44 male to IDE 40 male and a standard
IDE 40 pines cable?
Possible to copy, read, format...?
Need power supply?

For example this adapter is valid?

2 5 IDE 44 Pin Male to 40 Pin 3 5 IDE Male Dom HDD Adapter 40pin 44pin M M |

Thanks in advance.

I have already bought this adapter. It not work. (I have hacked a ribbon cable with pins for my tests)
I think that I will have to build my own adapter to plug over a 2"1/2 IDE to USB reader and allow CPC users what you are asking.

If anybody is interested (and this was inspired by CraigsBar's excellent SymbOS Quick Start Guide  ;D ).

Here is what I did to get BonnyDOS working with the X-Mass.

There is no English User Manual as far a I can tell...so here goes.

Get the ROMs/Files from here...BonnyDOS - CPCWiki

* BonnyDOS ROMs (v1.72) <-- Use these ROMs (BDOS ROM + 2x Addon ROMs)
* BonnyDOS System Disks <-- Use the Setup on these Discs

Note: The System Disc's include the slightly earlier version 1.71 BDOS ROM.

Place the ROM(s) in positions below the AmsDOS ROM in postition 7

* BonnyDOS does not replace the AmsDOS ROM.

I placed them in positions 4, 5, 6.

On the 'SetupA' disc, run"disce (English).

The initial screen is in German, but once loaded the Menu's are in English.

Select 'Install'.

Select 'Create'.

For a single partition, select 'Maximum' then 'Go'.

The partition is created and then you are asked to create a Supervisor Account.

Select 'Yes' and follow steps (choose user & password).

After partitioning your disk, it must be formatted.

Exit the setup utility.

Reboot the CPC and Enter |LOGIN

Enter your previously configured 'User & password'

Enter |FORMAT

When formatting is completed you can enter a partition/disk name.

Once completed, reboot the CPC.

Now you should be able to access the X-mass with |C and 'cat'.

To go back to the 'A' drive enter |AMS

You can create folders (directories) with the |MD,"DISK1" command (DISK1 is an example only).

You can copy files from the 'A' drive to the 'C' drive with |DCOPY,"TEST.BAS" or *.BAS etc.

* Remember to go into the directory on 'C' that you want the files copied to before beginning the copy.

* Note, BonnyDOS uses it's own File System. SymbOS cannot read it once formatted under BonnyDOS.

Cheers,
Shane

Hi Shane

BonnyDos and the 6128 Plus X-Mem and X-Mass

Hi I am able to install the 3 BonnyDos Roms ok into the X-mem.
I have put them into 4-5-6

BUT when i reboot (After full power down) or just reset.
The machine locks up at the BonnyDos Line.

Do I have to Format - Partition the DOM in some way ???

Sorry for the poor second photo.
This was obtained by switching out the roms so i could run the DISCE installer.

Thanks   Ray

Hi Ray,

Yes the X-Mass/DOM will need to be formatted with the BDOS config tool.

Select 'Create'.

EDIT 1:Ooh, I just re-read what you wrote and realised you are locking up after installing the ROMs, therefore you cannot get to format.

Mmm, it's been a long time since I did all my config of BDOS (Still working like a charm by the way).

I will have to think some more (it's a shame you are not just around the corner, could have a look for you).

EDIT 2: That first screen shot seems to ring a bell...I'm sure that happened to me at some point during my initial attempts with BDOS. Hmmm

EDIT 3: First thought, ensure all other ROMS are parked...just leave the BDOS ROMs active (if you have not tried that already).

Cheers,
Shane

Really strange...  :-\
I will do some extra test this sunday, because that worked fine for me and no problem to format before shipping them.

Yes i have decommisioned all the Roms Including FW3.15 (and 3.16) and have only the BDos  Roms active, and changed DOM
I will do some Voltage and ripple tests tomorrow.

Its looking like the X-Mass board is unwell.

Well, this cable should do it. The closest lower pin on the right corresponds to pin 1 of the DOM. On the left the corresponding pin is the closest upper pin, which corresponds to pin 1 of a 44-pin IDE drive. I've ordered an IDE to USB adapter.

Hi protek

Did the Male to Male adapter work with the 128 Meg DOM

Thanks    Ray

SOS

Do i need some special male-male adapter for a cheap USB2IDE (ebay) or is a simple 1:1 44-pin connecting plug (male-male) ok?
When i remove the DOM from the XMASS, i see the message  "Pins are inverted" - what does it mean?

TotO

USB2IDE devices are 2.5" female, like the DOM. You only require a male/male gender adapter to plug it.
The message "Pins are inverted" inform that you have to plug the DOM on the other way[nb]It is a board design optimisation. Best, this allow to directly plug a CF card adapter on it.[/nb]. It's why the DOM key was cut...
(take care to plug it on the good way to the PC, else it will be not detected)
