This week two little games distributed by Amsoft :

PUNCHY from Amsoft / Mr. Micro

SUBTERRANEAN STRYKER from Amsoft / Insight

For Subterranean Stryker, I modified the launcher so you can play with invulnerability  ;)

Ok guys, this week is a huge improvement for a legendary game on CPC. Originally requiring two joypads in its GX4000 conversion, even to play alone, @Urusergi delevers us a master work for :

TARGET RENEGADE from Ocean/Imagine

Controls:
J1 d-pad = Move Player 1 (J1LEFT = Music on/off in main menu)
J1B1 = Player 1 fire
J2 d-pad = Move Player 2
J2B1 = Player 2 fire
Pause button = Pause game

Modifications for the GX4000 version
    - Two versions: Original title screen and alternate one based on the C64 version,
    - all controls set by default on joypads for each player,
    - key definition option removed from main menu,
    - start game using joypad 1 for 1 or 2 players,
    - "1" and "2" automatically input in the hiscore table entry for each player and fire button to skip it,
    - pokes = Infinite lives and time, invulnerability.

Notes:
About the main screen tune, maybe some players noticed that it reboots each time the screen swaps between menu options and the hiscore table. We firstly tried to avoid the problem stopping the swap and using a button to display the hiscore table. Sadly, we soon discovered that the tune channels are gradually desynchronized, resulting in a real cacophony, especially when the music starts again automatically. Faced with the difficulty and the time that would have been necessary to correct the real problem, we ultimately decided to keep the game as it was. After all, it doesn't impact the game itself and if that's the solution the coder came up with at the time to quickly hide this issue, it was pretty clever.

Concerning the known problem of the score counter that seems to reset when you reach 999900, know that in reality it's not a mistake, the actual counter is four digits long. What happens is that they added two zeros to the right. And sadly, we didn't have enough memory to correct this issue too (for example freezing the counter reaching the maximum score, 9999).

Well, so consider we deliver you a version of the game fully playable on GX4000, but not correcting some known issues, just as it was the case at the launch of the game in 1988 ;-) Enjoy!

We gently start the week-end with a game offering a (too) fast action, written by Keith Goodyer:

SPEED ZONE from Mastertronic

I don't know if I'm too old to play games like this or if it's intentionally a damned challenge, but the speed of the enemies on screen is really impressive  8)

And as a bonus, @Urusergi just updated two essential games:

ARKANOID from Imagine/Ocean

ARKANOID - REVENGE OF DOH from Imagine/Ocean

The main idea was to upgrade the second game because the "open gate" cheat remained unaccessible without keyboard. And doing this, @Urusergi discovered a pause feature not documented in the instruction manual. Now these features are available ;D .

Controls:
J1B1 = Fire / launch the ball
J1B2 = Pause game
Pause button = Open the gate of the current level if cheat activated.

Just for our pleasure, Arkanoid has been updated too, just removing the CNG Soft logo and offering a version directly starting without cheat menu  8)

A new upgrade late on the weekend from @Urusergi san!  ;D A game I really love despite its little flaws:

THE GOONIES from U.S.Gold

Yes it lacks the end screen and even the theme composed by Cindy Lauper like on C64, but I really love all these primitive game inherited from the 2d generation of consoles and computer, offering so clever gameplays. And this one is perfect for the GX4000 with its 2 players simultaneously gameplay.

Controls on main screen:
J1B1 = Start 1 player game
J1B2 = Start 2 player game

Controls in game:
J1 d-pad = Move the selected goonie
J1B1 = Swap goonies
J1B2 = Music on/off
Pause button = Pause game

Modification for the GX4000 version:
    - No more terrible crack screens
    - Wait for fire to skip title screen
    - Patched keys and joypad controls for both players by default
    - Modified main menu

A new game this time from @Urusergi with:

TIMETRAX from Mind Games

Controls:
J1UP/J1B2  = Jump Up or Climb Up
J1DOWN = Climb Down
J1LEFT = Walk Left
J1RIGHT = Walk Right
J1UP+LEFT = Leap Left
J1UP+RIGHT = Leap Right
J1B1 = Fire Weapon
J1B1+UP = Move Into Screen (e.g. through door)
J1B1+DOWN = Enter Options Mode

A nice action-adventure game for our beloved GX4000.

Modifications for the GX4000 version:
    - Updated title screen including a "wait for fire" function.
    - Patched key to jump with J1B2 in addition to J1UP
    - Poke : Unlimited energy

Have a nice weekend everyone!  ;)

I didn't notice that this one was available on GX4000:

It's Halloween, no better opportunity to play Death in a game :P

We got into our habits with @remax , at the rate of one update per year  8) Afterwards, you are the second to ask for an update so I will see with my friend @remax if he would have time for that.

It's true that a lot of things have been added since March :P

You guys to an awesome job - and it's fantastic to see that you still find new games (good games) to turn them into a Cartridge.  :) :) :)

There are people who are constant. @cngsoft is one of them. For this new edition of Retrodev, he offers us a new game that is once again simple, devilishly effective and directly usable on GX4000. So, we are not going to deprive ourselves:

ALLOY BOX from CNG Soft

Here is a direct CPR version to feed you GX4000. More informations on his website here: http://cngsoft.no-ip.org/alloybox.htm

A repatch for an important CPC game, one of these successful conversions from arcade (even if a lot of content is missing, objectively):

Mr HELI from Firebird

Controls:
J1 d-pad = Move Mr Heli
J1B1 = Fire
Pause button = Pause game

While game is in pause:
  - J1B1 = Resume game
  - J1B2 = Music on/oof
  - Pause button = Quit game

Modifications for the GX4000 version:
    - New title screen by BJ
    - Wait for fire to skip title screen
    - PLUS/GX4000 game incompatibility fixed
    - Patched ingame keys
    - Modified main menu (PRESS FIRE TO START GAME)
    - Control keys description screen removed
    - Key press bug fixed
    - Pokes : Unlimited lives and energy

Have a nice week-end dudes  8)

Ok, this time we start the week-end with a little one, but there is more to come:

THE PLOT from Firebird

It seems to be very primitive, but in the end it's a good surprise  8)

See ya later  ;)

Ok, after this little one, here is the real news for this weekend, thanks to the work of @Urusergi , but not only  ;) :

SHOVEL ADVENTURE from Pat Morita Team

It was at first a fail because of a special loader making impossible to modify it to use the standard load routines instead, because it was changes something in the firmware. But the M4 cart had the same problem that nocart and joseman converted for the M4, making it automatically compatible with nocart. Many thanks to @dragon for letting us know about this version  8)

Hey @RockRiver , it took time since january, but here it is. Thanks to this M4 conversion, we can now offer you a version perfectly working on GX4000.

Have a nice weekend, everyone  ;)

Hi everybody! This week-end it's time to repatch another game that needed the second joypad :

BATTLE SHIPS from Elite

Main menu controls:
J1B1 = Start 1 player game
J1B2 = 2 player
Pause button = Salvo Fire On/Off
Any other key to start demo.

Ingame controls:
J1B1 = Select/Fire
J1B2 = Pause game
Pause button = Quit game
Player 1 and Player 2 use joypad 1 alternatively.

Modifications for this GX4000 version:
    - Wait for fire on main screen
    - Main menu modified (keys pateched and menu renamed BATTLESHIPS)
    - All keys patched

A true classic that I think everyone here played at least one time  ;) And it's a real pleasure even nowadays to play this one from time to time, even alone. Simple but efficient and addictive  8)

If you can read French, this page on Titan's site partly explains why there are two versions of Octopus for the GX4000.

As @Nich said , I confirm that . And Octopus 21 means that this project was done and build in 2021 , in Amstrad Eterno Fair as mentionned in the Gamejolt Page two , and the credits list when the game start after the intro scene.

Ladies and gentlemen, we start the week-end with a very special French game kindly converted by @Urusergi , something so much different we can wonder if it's really a game or more an artistic experience:

BIRDIE from Ere Informatique

Controls:
d-pad = fly
J1B1 = flap wings
Pause button = Pause/unpause (J1B1 = double size on/off, J1B2 = Quit current game)

Modifications for the GX4000 version:
    - Patched keys

More than a game, BIRDIE is a feeling, it's art. The aim of the game isn't really clear. You fly avoiding trees and ennemies. The challenge is more to maintain the bird flying, using air streams, controlling the altitude. Sometimes gates appear to teleport you to another section with a different background from day to night. After that... But if there is a game that perfectly represents the creativity on Amstrad CPC and all the weird games the free distribution under small labels on computers offered, it's this one.

The double size feature uses a very special display trick making it work only on an Amstrad monitor. It doesn't work on most on all the emulators I tried and for my part it doesn't work neither on my Trinitron 100hz  :P

Is there a version of Burnin Wheels for GX4000? Not that I would need it but it already looks like GX4000 scrolling.  :)

Yes, already converted by dragon and available in the list (I didn't see it at first @XeNoMoRPH ) ;)

The scrolling is impressive. After that, I don't forget it's just a piece of program provided in a German magazine. But we can suppose it was a nice surprise for readers back in 1987. Personally I didn't know this one, so many thanks @GUNHED for the discovery  8)
