I've been toying with the idea of something similar for a while now, and it's also been discussed, so here it is - a Likes system.

Description:

This wonderful mod will give our community a "Likes Tree". It gives our users an instant "birds-eye-view" of the "Likes" distribution in a topic, allowing you to easily identify the most useful/important content, no matter how many posts are involved. This new feature allows people to extract more value out of forums in less time.

Features:

o Like First or any Post. Currently set to "any"
o Show Total of Likes in Topic Header.
o Show List of Likes in Topics and same page using Ajax
o Hide any of above lists easily.
o Likes Permission in included - only registered users are set to have the capability.
o Unlike Posts. Although no "Dislike" functionality exists on purpose (it would be prone to starting in-fights etc) you can un-like a post you previously liked.
o If member already liked, Like button would be hidden.
o Show List of People Who Liked each Post in same page using Ajax.
o Total of Likes each People Received can showed (or hidden) in:
Posts.
Personal Messages.
Member List.
Profile.
o Show Top 10 Liked Topics and Users.
o Optionally Allow Owner to Like his own posts. (Total Likes received won't be increased -set to disabled).
o Anti-Spam Measure: Allow Likes for same users every X seconds.
o Show Total of Likes received by a Topic in Message Index.
o If last option is enabled, you can sort topics by Likes.

So there you have it. Above text was edited from here where you can also check some screenshots.
Let's get liking! :)

Bryce

Dis-like! :D

I assume it only works in the default skin, or am I just tto stupid to find the button?

Bryce.

Gryzor

Most of the modifications only work with the default theme, that's why one of these days I'll probably remove all extra themes... Right now there are 420-odd users using the default theme and three users using three different themes :D

Bryce

I use moderndark64, it's better for my eyes that are really sensitive from years of soldering in a basement :D

Bryce.

AMSDOS

I'm using the Default skin, though I don't understand how this thing works or is it only meant for Admin & Moderators?

Also I've noticed the Liked under my Profile Name/Posts, is that supposed to be something else cause I noticed where you put your Liked in that other post, though it wasn't incremented beside MacDeath name.
* Using the old Amstrad Languages :D * And create my own ;)
* Incorporating the Firmware :P
* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

Wait, can't you see the Like button with the thumbs-up as in the attached photo? Permissions are set right, so you should...

I'm not sure about your other question??

fano

Where is the like button asks a SeaMonkey 2 user  :-[

Have you seen the screenshot?

I have now checked it under Opera 11.50, IE9, FF4.01 and Chrome Canary 13. It works everywhere...

steve

I have seen the jpg and there are no like buttons visible to me (except in the jpg), I am using FF4.

Gryzor

Oops you're right... interesting, something must be screwed with the permissions. Will look into it!

Gryzor

See it now? :) My apologies, it was a bit more complicated than I thought, had to touch some more things. I think it's working now!

Bryce

I see it and it works :) but why doesn't the Liked=0 change to Liked=1, instead there is a box in the Post saying 1 Like.

Bryce.

Gryzor

Huh? What 0 to 1?? If you mean, why wouldn't the state of the Like button change, this is because more than one person can like a post. If the button changed states instead of having a box then it would mean that it could only be liked by one person. While this way, I can like your post and it will read "2 Likes" :)

Bryce

No, I meant on the left hand side under my Profile picture there is:

Liked: 0
Country:
Gender... etc.

Why does that Liked stay at zero? Or is that just for when you like ME ;)

Bryce.

Gryzor

Hahahaha well, and then there's the shower.... :D

I'll look into it, probably a missing edit in the profile php scripts.

Yes it is, and after finding nothing I reported a bug to the developer :D
