Metal Gear type game: A humble suggestion to CPC developers

Some time ago, I already wondered why there weren't more isometric and sports games programmed recently for 8 bit computers. But apparently these are quite complex to make (which makes guys like Jon Ritman even more awesome, as he kind of combined both genres in Matchday 2 to create a super fun game).

I can't program much more than a database or a text adventure, so I won't complain. I understand that nobody would want to do all that complicated work for free.

However, I just realized there's one particular genre that it's perfectly doable on the CPC (and similar machines), and judging by recent games with a similar "engine", also not terribly difficult to program: the "Metal Gear" type games.

The most similar game, created back in the day, was clearly Rambo III:

In this game, enemy soldiers have 2 separated states: "I haven't seen Rambo yet" and "I have seen Rambo, must kill him BWWWWARRHRHHHGGGG".

And they usually go around walking the same paths over and over until you appear in their line of sight. Interestingly enough, the Mega Drive version doesn't have the "stealth" element and is closer to Commando.

The original Metal Gear was released in the summer of 87, and the Rambo III 8 bit computer versions were released in early 89, so it's very likely there was a direct inspiration.

Still, it would be nice that one of the 2025 CPC developers (modern heros) read this topic and said: "Oh!". And an hologram of a light bulb appeared over his head. And some time later, we got a mode 0 "Rambo III" style game for the Amstrad CPC... where you can also hide in boxes. ;-)
