Does anybody have a DUMP of the Data Media DOS called FDOS?

Is there any source code available?

Interested to know more about such a thing, but Google is no help.

Where have you found such a thing, or seen mention of it?

I've seen details of the Amstrad Data Format disks, which is somewhat misnamed, being merely a normal file format with a bit extra space via removing the System tracks, but not 'data format'?

See cpcwiki: data media floppy  :) :) :)

Well, I played re-arrange the words, and got something that MIGHT be what you were asking about, but somewhat less interesting to me.

Evidently, back in 1986 or thereabouts, there was a German company called 'Data Media'.  They produced some external disk units of various configuratione.  Referred to as 'Disk Systems'.  Seems the system used their own OS, called FDOS, which seems to be quite incompatible with anything else?  Maybe because of this last fact, the system was NOT a commercial success.

The info makes no mention of a floppy disk (the OS), the system had the OS (FDOS) on EPROM in the unit.  There is mention of being able to download the EPROM image, but no info that this was ever available, or existing now.  You maybe need to try to find someone who might have an actual unit (Data Media - Disk System) with the software in ROM?

Sounds a bit like a pre-USB sort of Gotek, i.e. multiple disks (as images) on a single 'drive' that can switch between them??

Yes, therefore the EPROM dump (or even source code) would be desirable.

btw.: it consisted out of 1-4 physical floppy disc drives, with an 0.7 MB format.

BTW it is very likely that what you call "Data Media" is the same company as the one listed in old issues of "Schneider (Amstrad) CPC International" as DMV.

Why:
  • In the imprint sections of CPC / Schneider / Amstrad International, the publisher is listed as "DMV – Daten- und Medien-Verlagsgesellschaft (mbH)", sometimes also written as "Daten & Medien Verlag." This German wording corresponds directly to the English phrase "Data & Media (Publishing)."
  • CPCWiki (an Amstrad/CPC community encyclopedia) explicitly identifies DMV as "Daten- und Medien-Verlagsgesellschaft mbH", founded in 1984 (Christian Widuch, Eschwege), and names DMV as publisher of several CPC/Amstrad magazines, including CPC Schneider International.
  • Archive entries (e.g. on Archive.org) for many issues list the publisher as DMV – Daten & Medien Verlag.

That were different companies.

here is a recent offer on Ebay for their RAM expansion.

On the back of the package you can see their address. They have been located in Dortmund, while DMV was always in Eschwege (until they got sold).
