Hi, one of my two CPC464s has a problem in rewinding tapes...opening up I've noticed that the rewind spool gear is basically half consumed and does not engage the motor gear. I've never seen something like that, what I can think is that previous owner got something stuck and forced the a rewind somehow - there's some strange residue on the gear.

I managed to find an exact replacement on ebay but the price is crazy so I was wondering 1) is there a replacement source I can look into, i.e. any compatible brand of tape players that may be more available or 2) what is the exact English name of this thingy (I'm no native speaker) to try looking for it on Chinese sites? Last option is to try modeling it out and resin print it.. not sure how long could it last.

Is this a common failure on CPC tape decks?

Thanks

Bryce

Hi Deadmeat,
I don't think that's the original part. Have you compared it to the part in your other 464?

Bryce.

Hi Bryce,

I didn't open my other CPC, that can be an option as soon as I have a little time... however I've found an ebay listing for a replacement that really looks identical but it's crazy expensive (smaller gear on the right). In any case if a non original part can be good enough I think I'll go for it, rather than trying to 3d print it. If any other tape brand of the era can be compatible maybe it's easier to source the part.
