Hello guys,
Some of you have noticed very high response/load times on the forum today. The culprit seems to have something to do with Youtube, and that's why I'm disabling inline parsing of videos for today. Will try again later to see if the problem has been fixed.

I used to get a slowdown problem on another forum if I found a particular thread had an over abundance of YouTube Videos in them, though that seemed to be a localised occurrence to that thread. In a way it's better to click on a URL link that takes you to content on their site cause it may well be those videos are simply using resources on this site. Obviously it's nice to have some Commentry followed by a YouTube that puts some sort of context to what's being said, though if it can be avoided, then so much the better.

I'm just wondering if a spoiler with the YouTube within it would make a difference?

Why the slowdown?

I mean, it's a server-side thing or the slow down takes place in the browser?

Gryzor

I really don't know; the script parses the YT page to scan for various info (such as title, video info etc) and then renders the local page, but the video is, of course, on YT. It shouldn't take more than a few tens of a second. My guess is that our server had difficulties communicating with YT, but it appears to be ok now.

Someone's been playing around with them "do-not-switch-off" switches again!  ;)
