Now I've got myself a 6128 and a 3.5 inch drive on the back I've finally (after 20 years) had a blast on Turbo The Tortoise. It may not have the parallax scrolling that the Spectrum and C64 has (or the high res sprite overlay the C64 can do) what I really like is how smooth the scrolling and the sprite movements are.

As a noob to the Amstrad I was wondering which game had the smoothest scrolling? Also I'm looking for any fine examples of scrolling platformers and shmups to look out for and get my teeth into.

check this list with games that use hardware scrolling:

Games - CPCWiki - The Ultimate Amstrad CPC Community & Encyclopedia!

however, they are not always the best games  :-[
_____

you should try paul kooistra's games and conversions: Edge Grinder, Star Sabre and Sub Hunter they all are nice shoot'em ups. Also some other games like X-out, P-47 or even UN-Squadron ( a bit slow but awesome arcadae conversion to CPC) or Thanatos.

and for plataform games i really like (scroll or not): cauldron 1  & 2, super cauldron, prehistorik 2,gryzor, rainbow islands, baby jo and batman the movie (love that one!) also trantor, savage or xyphoes phantasy or swichtblade are great Amstard game

Obviously there are many more but there u have some fine examples, give them a try im sure some ur gonna love them and welcome to the CPC world m8

Never is too late to flirt with the CPC :D

If you like Turbo The Tortoise,  you will love the other games of Hi-Tec, as Scrappy Doo ;)

tell you what, Turrican is a bit of alright same coarse scroll as a speccy but the graphics are gorgeous but I can't get my son off the machine so I can play on it

in fact since I got my 464 a few weeks ago he can't keep off it and now I've got a 6128 and he doesn't have to wait for a tape to load, I can get a shout in!

Nice :) How old is your son? I guess its about time I introduce my 3 year old to my 464  :D

BiNMaN

he's 5 but I have to limit his time on it, he'll get so engrossed he'll have the odd 'accident' while he sits and plays

I also have to lay down some strict ground rules too as he gets a little too obsessed and tends to kick off when it's time to stop playing.
