I'd really like to thank you for the magazine scanning effort. I  didn't think I'd ever see what I'd written ever again. Oh my.

Cheers,
Stewart

Hello Stewart,

Welcome to the Wiki! Let me start by thanking you for your donation (and apologies for the delay, usually I'm not that ungrateful, just terribly busy!). Really appreciated :)

Concerning the magazines, you might want to check the Downloads section here at the forum (look at the top row). From there you can download all the magazines in zip files...

Can you tell us what you had written and where?

Again, welcome!

Funnily enough I stumbled on that site looking for PC Mag + TAU magazines... They have quite a few magazines: Amstrad Action, CPC Attack, CPC Magazine (FR), Amstrad Professional, Big K and other things....

I had seen this some time ago, IIRC it's an amalgamation of scans found on CPC Oxygen, the Wiki and the OCRed scans based on the wiki scans (based on....).

Full text sounds nice at first, until you realise you can do the same thing with OCRed PDFs. Maybe we could add CPC Magazine and Amstrad Professional though!

Cheers, Gryzor. After the three programming articles, I mostly wrote games reviews for ACU. They had this fake game review panel of "Colin, Liz & Nigel" who were in fact excerpts cut from the main review. I was brought on to writing by Jeff Walker, founder of WACCI, who went on to Amiga Computing (I followed), then on to his own homebrew JAM magazine. I'm still in touch with Jeff, who is alive, (mostly) well, and living in Flitwick, England. I pointed him to the magazine scans, and he was staggered that someone would keep them all.

It's always so nice to hear from the old-timers... Please do rant about anything and everything that comes to mind from the period! :)

Sykobee (Briggsy)

Man, I actually thought that the Colin, Liz and Nigel parts were real second opinions. Now I learn they're fake! :p

"Fake" in what regard?

They decided that their magazine was a bit too full of man writer, so they decided to invent a false girl that was in charge to answer to the readers mail.

She was supposed to be very hot, but hard too see (we would never see a picture of her, only drawings).
She fed our fantasms for years, and it's only until recently, in an interview of Poum, one of the main writers, that we had confirmation that it was only man writers behind her pseudo.

It feels like the hot girl you managed to bring back from the bar to spend the night with happens to be a tranny... ouch.*

*Now you understand why it was so easy.

Gryzor

Yeah, I did read an article on a french site about it that said she was a fake... And that they used promoters or something at expos to say it was her?

Sorry to hear that. I always thought that when a game a score of say 9, 14 and 17 that it actually gave what the three different reviewers thought about the game.  Still, its always good to hear what really happend from a historical perspective. It would be very nice to hear of other things that happend at ACU or stories you have heard about the industry. Thanks!

Sure I saw him yesterday wearing a Mariachi Sombrero in Snake and Jakes. Next time I'll make a picture.
