I don't think chemistry or physics from amsoft have been dumped.
software star, never heard of it, worth dumping too.
not sure if the lightpen stuff has been dumped either.

I believe it's worth dumping everything, including utils, educational, games etc.

EgoTrip

its worth checking on CPC-POWER, sauvegarde du patrimoine de l'Amstrad CPC to see if any of them have been dumped.

Do you know if the tape game Think! is the original Ariolasoft version or the re-release from Firebird? The Ariolasoft release seems to be very hard to find.

Also, I have never heard of Karteien Verwaltung. That would be of interest as well (I can't find it on CPC-POWER).

"Karteien Verwaltung" is the German word for "filing system management", the type that secretaries / receptionists used to use for names and telephone numbers. I assume it's a simple address-book type app.

Hiya nich

I think it is the original version - photo included.

It may be ... or it may be a very innocent name for a "interesting" game...  ;D

Still worth dumping...

dcdrac

Been through my old cassettes and checked them against the current dumps images available
Some potentials not done yet or I could not find them:
Enterprise - Mastertronic version
Titanic - Kixx version
Trapdoor =- Alterantive Software
Six A Side Microprose
Wizards Lair - Bubble Bus

Siorah

well, is there a tutorial or guide on dumping cassettes?

I will have a look later at the list, but time isn't on my side being a teacher!

it's why i threw the list up for you to chew on lol.

I can see my chemistry revision has not been dumped or photo'ed anywhere, so i am going to need a hand on how to do that with a 3" disk.

Cheers folks

dcdrac

First off for the cassettes you will need an old tape player and a mic or better connector to connect from the head phone socket of the tape player to the mic socket on your PC
Put the volume setting of your tape player on halfway or 50%
Obtain this:
GoldWave - Audio Editor, Recorder, Converter, Restoration, & Analysis Software
Then press file and new
A box called New Sound will appear
put the number of channels on 1 mono
sampling rate 44100
initial file length 03:00:00
You will see two red buttons press the one on the left let your tape play to be recorded then when it finishes press the stop button
Then select file save as call it something that makes sense then save it

Siorah

I will begin the arduous task of recording all my tapes this weekend then. Do we have somewhere we can upload to so you guys can make those cdt? files out of them?

I assume you will want the wave files only of course, no compression right.

Still need assistance with dumping disks though - i've just bought a shed tonne off a seller for the PCW community - I only want the disks for class, the contents however could have uses for them, especially as it's 60 disks worth. So any tutorials or volunteers in our little group?

Are you looking to acquire it nich? I can easily sell it to you, I am just going to dump these and sell them on, cassettes sadly don't have much use in a classroom environment - way too much time is lost in loading!

Bryce

I'd load at least one tape in the classroom, just so that the kids see what we used to have to put up with! :D

Regarding original disks, is it just utilities and serious software you're looking for, or do you want games too?

Bryce.

Siorah

well i would like as much as possible, but the education stuff is more useful than games.

According to the licencing rules in the school i can use the HxC adapter to a point but i need to find if i can any of the companies that still exist for permissions. It seems some of the games still are under copyright - a la codemasters for example, which i'd have to use an original for.

Any game prior to 1993 and with no surviving company should be ok for an educational setting though. I just would like the fun school series as an original copy for the classroom.

yeah start the loading off, note down the time.
get the kids to do something else coz they get bored quickly.
then tell em when it's done.
I mean we didn't all just sit there and stare at the screen while it loaded.

EDIT: Let them listen to the loading sound too and watch the flashing borders.. just for 1 minute or so ;)

Siorah

do any of you know a 'quick' loading game?

I was gonna use dizzy as thats only 4 minutes and i can do that while i'm getting the register done. My only hope is the VGA solution works with the smartboard, will you guys want pics of the setup in action btw? just for the sake of the wiki?

If you know any games with a sub 5 min load time, let me know!

Bryce

Any of the simpler games such as Harrier attack should be faster.

Bryce.

Siorah

that one doesn't need a speed change does it? I was going to freak them out by loading a game via the ipod :P my CPC6128 has loaded games successfully from my galaxy SII as well as my Ipod, but they dont need speed changes.

Bryce

I don't think so. Being a very early game it uses the simplest of methods of everything.

I remember the Blue Ribbon game Balloon Buster being a very quick load, but that was from the Amstrad Action Covertape (Issue 92 I think). AA had a screenshot of the Loading Screen on the Covertape page, though wasn't on the Tape itself making it a fast load using a Headerless loader. All the AA Covertape are available online though.
* Using the old Amstrad Languages :D * And create my own ;)

show them a game at normal loading speed, then use OTLA to record a high speed version ;)

Axelay

Not exactly great, but I remember messing with the loader for Space Hawks to speed it up because it was such a small, fast loading game already.  I just gave the tape image a load and it was about 2.5 minutes.

I suck at that game and cringed when I watched the YouTube of it, I can get to the 4th level, though those bouncing balls seem to have my name on them.  >:(  I wish it took 20 minutes to load.  :D
