Looking for an old PD Adventure game

Hi all,

A long time ago, when I owned an Amstrad CPC, I wrote a game in Amstrad BASIC. It was a text adventure called "The Search for Mithrillium". This was actually my O Level computing project, so as you can imagine, it wasn't a great game, we aren't talking about a rival for Elite. However, it did make it into at least one public domain library.

My dear old CPC is long gone, along with any copies of the game that I had. I just wondered if there were still any copies out there. It would be fun to play it again for old times sake.

Does anyone have a copy or can point me to where I might find one?

any of these PD libraries ring a bell?

PD libraries - CPCWiki

If you were to tell us which ones, we may be able to have some more luck.

Only problem is that not much of the pd software from these libraries is online.

I don't know why my post turned up twice in the forum. Sorry about that folks. Anyway, thanks for the quick replies.
@dcdrac - thanks for the links, I will take a look through those downloads.  I have had a scout around the Internet, but didn't find my game yet.

@arnoldemu - yes indeed, the wiki page jogged my memory. It was Adventure PD. Sadly there is no URL or contact address listed though.

Sue, I'm asking in several spanish CPC forums in case anyone can provide us with some more information.

I'll be telling you if the game is found.

Best regards, and welcome!

I had a look around here and found this document:

http://www.cantrell.org.uk/mirrors/robot-pd/index.txt

Sadly though there's only some robot-pd stuff there and the WACCI stuff (which is only a list) only mentions which Discs have the Games on them, sadly no names. I guess if those Discs were online somewhere, that list would help to pick which Discs have the Games on them.

* I also like to problem solve code in BASIC :)   * And type-in Type-Ins! :D

I have looked already and I can't find it in there.

I also looked through the "sheepsoft" (?) pd library and I can't find it in there either.

I don't know if the adventure pd discs were ever archived and uploaded...?

I vaguely remember this game. I used to own it on a compilation of adventure games that my brother obtained from Adventure PD. Unfortunately, when my brother lost interest in the CPC, I reformatted the disc and used it for other stuff, so my copy of the game is lost forever. :'( (This would have been in the mid-1990s, when 3" discs were very scarce and expensive - well, in my experience, anyway.)

Well, thanks everyone for looking. I have checked out the libraries you all pointed to, but no luck. I guess my old game is gone.

Hi Sue,

Do you remember what you had your game on (Tape or Disc)?

I still have some Tapes floating around from the good ol' days, though I'm guessing you haven't got anything left from those Amstrad days?  :'(  I guess if I'd made something and sent it somewhere, it would of been on tape, just because of the cost of a 3" Disc.  ;D

I found a file called ADVENTUR.BAS and it starts with:
"You are standing in a small village..."
It seems to be in 3 parts, but I only have 1 part. Written in BASIC.

Passwords for each part appear to be DRAGONBAIT, FIREDRAKE and MITHRILL.

I am fairly sure it's not your adventure, and probably one of Simon Avery's but just wondering...??

This AA Page from Balrog, has a contact for someone who has solved Search for Mithrillium, I won't post their details here, though would it be worthwhile contacting Phil to see if they have a copy? Or have you tried that?

I had a look up the White Pages UK, and it looks like that Address is still current, sadly I couldn't get an address from it though (it looks as if you have to sign up for something else before you can view that information). :(

Thanks for more replies.

@amsdos. My copy of the game was on 3" disk, but I guess it would be whatever the PD library sent out. I will see if I can contact the chap who wrote to Balrog, thanks for that suggestion.

@arnoldemu. Nice try, but no, I don't think adventur.bas is the one. I'm fairly sure my game didn't start in a village. It was a space adventure, I think it started in the space ship.  I remember playing Simon's games though. I loved those.

I may have found Debbie Howard from Adventure PD:

Well the only common things are that this Debbie used an Amstrad and enjoys Adventure games. Howard may have been her maiden name.

About Us - The Average Gamer

Only way to know.
I was hoping in some crazy way that if we located Debbie she may still have the Adventure PD discs (pure luck I am sure if she kept them after this time), or found out what happened to the adventure pd library... did it get absorbed into another library?
