Darn, wanted to do this a long time ago but it slipped... thanks :) :)

MacDeath

would it be possible to get other stuff than Youtube ?

At CPCrulez it is possible to put video from almost any other video host.

exemples :

(flash=425,344)http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docid=5716398326696022800&hl=fr&fs=true(/flash)

using [ and ] instead of ( and )...

Can this be achieved with the wiki ? (or even this forum)

Gryzor

I think Markus The Great could give you an answer on that... btw, Markus, shall we reenable the missing commands?

I don't really like "traffic-stealing". But yes, it would be possible.
But when someone posts a flashfile here, he should be sure that it's allowed to post things from foreign servers.

@ Gryzor:
Yes you can re-enable them I think.
You have the backups. So look where the codes were in ;)

I don't think it's traffic stealing. Thos sites allow embedding on purpose - and there's even the option for the vid uploader to disable that. So I don't have any moral problems with that!

MacDeath

Hi again.

I downloaded on my PC some old funny Amstrad advertisements.

The files are not that big.

I wanted to know if this is possible to actually display such files directly on the wiki as can be achieved by the BBC code for youtube links..?

Exemple of my try (easy reversible of course) :

(this is the file)

(the page where it is displayed...)

http://cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Amstrad_Commercials
(the page I tried to put it)

My aim is to put most Crocodile era french commercials...
So if this is possible thx.

I know about the traffic stealing stuff, the idea is : for small video files we may Upload them directly...

And for bigger videos, well enabling the direct linking to another media host (as those are supposed to be used like this...)

Just like the video on Graphisms or Demo on 8-16bit computers I tried to link before (which are 1 hour long and won't be uploaded on the wiki IMO...)
http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docid=5716398326696022800&hl=fr&fs=true
(it is an exemple)

Of course your opinion on the matter is important...

Devilmarkus

Hi!

AFAIK this don't work. For hosting videos, the wiki would need extra commands.

But you can upload them on Youtube and use them then for the wiki.

That's what I was thinking...

I'll do it then.

Hm, I should guess there is a modification that would allow that... lemme look into it!

It would never work, because you need special programs running on the server, to do video conversions.
And because we don't have shell access to run such programs, it won't work.

Perhaps it would be usefull to get a Youtube account for the CPCwiki...

Trustfull users would get access to this account (the sign in code) in order to put CPC related videos...

So we would also be sure no video would get removed and so on...

why not.

Oh, that's what I meant! Not upload the vids to the wiki itself, just embed YT vids...

Thx Devil markus...I'll start uploading porns ASAP... :-*

OK...jokes apart...

I connected with this Youtube account and put all kind of Amstrad French Advertisement (most of them with the Crocodiles of course) and PC1512 too.

I'll put the link at the cpcwiki Ad page now.

Get a look at the Tags...

I found out puting a shitton of Tags may be good... those are related of course !

So I think the list of tag I put is the kind of one we should put...

see ya.

Do you have a link to the CPCWiki YouTube channel then?

Hello mate,

Yesterday I watched those vids. Thanks so much!!!!! :)

However, there are a few things to watch concerning how we write in the wiki...

I'm specifically referring to the text under the last video:

QuoteOf course, the Amstrad CPC464 loose by far as the BBC micro was owned by the BBC... just like the channel broadcasting this programm.

It was clearly cheated with the "this old junk BBC do have more softwares than the brand new released Amstrad" argument. As this granted an awfull lot of "points" compaired to others tests the Amstrad won by far.

The Graphical capabilities was a bit cheated too. The CPC could display twice maximum colours (16) despite in large pixels mode.

The Fullscreen trick wasn't quite known at the time despite enabling Amstrad's CPC to really get a resolution comparable to BBC's.

This has been discussed elsewhere, too. The thing is, this text is more of a personal opinion than an article, and so it should be in the Talk pages at most. It's also factually incorrect, since the BBC was not owned by the BBC, it was merely commissioned by it.

Of course you can pretty much write the same thing in another style, like, maybe, "Since the BBC computer was used and promoted by the BBC the review was bound to be somewhat biased against the CPC".

I can try changing the text for you, or if you prefer you can change it yourself :)

@Gryzor
I must admit I went a bit far on this one.
:D

So yeah you can turn it another way if you want.

Just keeping it to the fact that finally the Amstrad was the winner compaired to the Sinclair QL or BBC micro... in commercial success.

Or that some arguments used "against" the CPC weren't that true (or weren't the most relevant) after all.

Also, this is an Amstrad "comercials advertisements" page but I put other kind of videos on this, perhaps another page with heavy video contents featuring TV broadcasts concerning/talking about CPC may be good ?

What did you thought about the French Amstrad Crocodiles...?

Actually the second CPC (old) commercial with all those crocodiles is perhaps the best...

But the GX/PLUS ads are simply hilarious.

It's the only one not faking screendisplays and showing actual CPC games (and claver choice, with Barbarian...) and fun comment talking to the kids we were in a pseudo serious tone (Perhaps I should try to put a subtitle translating into English)

Also it may be fun to know what happened to the real Crocodile puppets ??? A rare collector indeed...

And, Crocodiles smileys ?

BTW, would be great if we could find Australian, English, German and Spanish adverts too... or even Greek's ?

I put the PC too as the crocodile or the naked man is just too fun.
