Very Nice!Great that it has official release!

Gryzor

Indeed! Too bad it didn't come on disk, too!

rexbeng

Well, if there's enough people interested I suppose I could produce A3 or A2 sized posters of the cover art.  :)

Oooh, nice! This will make a nice Christmas present for my CPC... :D

I assume this is exactly the same game that was entered for the CPCWiki competition (i.e. there are no extra levels and/or graphics)?

rexbeng

Yes, it's the same game that was done for the 16K compo although this version includes an intro (a slightly enhanced version of the 'Relentless teaser', a little demo that was released a few days before the conclusion of the 16k compo) and ofcourse the vintage-looking cover.  :D

I'd like there to be able to be a disk release if it seemed practical, but my feeling is that it would be a bit of a waste to use what working disks can be found for a small game like this.  If it's any consolation, the faster loading side of the tape that doesnt have the intro loads in around 3.5 minutes.   :)

Gryzor

Well, you know it's not about loading it any faster, but rather for completeness' sake ;)

Well I don't think this is the point. As I know most of the people simply don't own a tape deck. But it may be different from place to place.

A tape lead for a 664/6128 can be built for about £3.

I want to avoid anything related to tapes, got enough of them in eighties... If physical disk version ain't possible a commercial digital download for disk image would be nice.

Well, there's this, if you don't want the extras... Amstrad CPC 16KBs ROM Game Development Competition 2013 - CPCWiki

Digital download is the cancer of the 2K years.
If you accept this system, a day, you will have to pay again for all the existing CPC games if AMSTRAD change his minds.

Kenz showed me a copy "in the flesh" at Revival last Saturday and it looks properly lovely. =-)

My "Drei Pfennig" about Tape/Disc/Digital Download...

Usually people just ask a price for a product, which enables them to finance their own expenses (Tapes, Discs, Boxes, packaging for example...)[nb]See Orion Prime, R-Type, etc. Actually all I know ;-)[/nb]. So maybe there will be a DSK download for free one day.

I kinda understand your point there but after all they can change their minds for whatever other reason as well, and when thinking of people who prefer to use original hardware with modern storage solutions or play mainly or completely using emulators digital downloads definitely serve them better than "forcing" them to buy physical copy they might even not be able to use as-is. I, for example, stopped collecting physical originals of games completely years ago when I ran out of storage space and had to choose between them and my movie collection, but I want to keep up with new titles and even when I don't have much of moral what comes to pirating old stuff I gladly support this small bunch of devoted people who still bother to create software for our loved computers whenever it's possible: Buying downloadable versions allow me to do exactly that and certainly benefits the developers much better than buying nothing at all, and it doesn't even steal away the value of limited physical copies as we are speaking of two completely different things which cannot be compared directly.

The idea is more: "what is free today will come $$$ tomorrow" if peoples are OK to pay for anything virtual.

Sadly , you quoted bad examples as for R-Type and Orion Prime , physical releases were not the main goal, there were just a "bonus".

Physical distribution is more a "little plus" than really a commercial version, maybe with some extras that justify the price. For me , data (numeric content) should stay free (except if it needs a specific hardware and is bundled with). That's how i see CPC dev (i do not speak about "modern" platforms) but i think a good idea is to have a "donate" button on website for people that thinks we deserve a reward for hard work (because it is an hard work)

i doubt this will happen, some firms already deny distribution of their games but usually aren't even consistent about which platforms that happens on; look up Dizzy in the World of Spectrum archives or Boulder Dash on Gamebase64 and you won't find downloads, but those games can be found on the other platforms (and indeed through other means for the same platform) very easily. The companies are already taking money for images of their original games for specific emulators on iOs or the Wii Virtual Console, but without anybody really controlling the "platform" for the real hardware or PC emulators and no form of DRM or security in place i suspect they realise that, even if they could cram their genie back into the bottle to begin with, it wouldn't stay there long.

The C64 community has already been through quite a bit of this with the C64DTV, Wii Virtual Console, the iOs emulator and so on; despite a few "hiccups" where people panicked and removed games from archives without being asked to by rights holders (some Commodore games disappeared when the C64DTV was close to release for example) there's been very little long term effect of these commercial projects or the reasonably brisk sales of digital downloads from homebrew publishers like Psytronik or RGCD on the online community as a whole.

Well, I see no reason to treat CPC and what you call modern platforms different. If you would say one is hobby and one is job, then I would agree. :) But why must anything-CPC be free, while - of course - putting money in "modern" platforms? I think it depends what it is and not which platform it is.

Let me tell you about a Donate button... or better ask people who have one.... It does not work!

To show appreciation: Buy the product[nb]Because the coder has to pay rent too[/nb]  :)

And let me finally point out one important thing: We all can share our opinion how we would like to have things. That's OK, But IMHO it's not OK, to tell others how they shall make it.

There is a simple reason (except designing program and writing code is a pleasure for me (and a pain too)) for me but there are multiples replies :

-Winape is free
-Sjasm is free
-Grafx2 is free
-Arkos tracker is free
-XBlite is free
-Doc and code avaible on CPCwiki, Grimware, Z80 heaven, and so on, are free
-Longshot, Grim, Hicks, Axelay,MetalBrain, and so on , never ask me money for reply, advice or code
-People who wrote articles about Z80 coding that learn me never ask for money
-Bob Pape never ask us money for his precious support
-The guy who agreed the port of his free game for our next project didn't ask for money (and do not sell his game despite the fact it deserve)
-(this list is far to be complete)

After that , how i can seriously think to ask money for my code on CPC ?

Quote from: TFM on 18:58, 12 December 13Let me tell you about a Donate button... or better ask people who have one.... It does not work!
The question is not if that works or not , the question is to follow my way of thinking.Getting money for doing this on CPC is secondary for me , if that do not work so i'll deal with it.

Do not misunderstand me, i am far to be sure to own truth so i do not say to other people what to do.Maybe i am totaly wrong about this but i'd like to share my point about selling digital content for CPC.

I would also like to see that everything is free. And for all software (w/o hardware) it's doable. Physical copies are different again.

I agree with you ,as long there is something physical (mass support and/or specific hardware) , i do not see a problem if it is not free.I'd go further for specific hardware , in some cases, i think the digital content could not be distributed to protect the costs involved in hardware creation and distribution as long marging is not exagerated.

btw, please accept my apologies if my posts are not always clear because engrish is not my native language and it is not very easy to translate all the nuances involved in french language when my english knowledge is so limited.
