6128 Plus drive motor has died, tested by swapping out the belts, and initially it works then the motor makes  what only be described as wheezing sounds so I suspect the motor has gone, and I can only imagine getting a replacement drive will be near impossible so what are the options open as a replacement?

NB got an old DD1 hooked up with an ABBA switch as a substitute and working on the 3/1/2 inch possibility and have an HXC drive.

If anyone could point me in the direction of a palce I could get a replacement drive, I know not too likely, that would be great.

It's very unusual for one of these motors to die. If you want to send the drive over I could take a look at it?

That would be grand can get it off next weekend just need to know where to.

Hi dcdrac,
I took a look at your drive this morning. There were two problems. One was that there were a few dry joints on the PCB, an easy fix. The other problem was the belt. Is it new or did you take it from some other drive? It's too loose, so it works first time you install it, but after a few reads / writes it has started falling off the large wheel and rubs against the PCB, slowing the disk rotation and hence the read-fails. Should I order a new belt for you or do you prefer to do this yourself? Otherwise the drive is fine, the disk is turning at 298.5rpm, the head is giving a clear signal and the electronics is doing what it should.

Let me know.

Those symptons are exactly what I noticed, I would reseat the drive belt, that was a new one so maybe it is duff, I would put the drive back in all seemed well first test then second same symptons.

Yes please go ahead and let me know the costs postage et al, thank you.

Bryce

Ok, I used a belt from my own drive at the moment. I'll order a new belt for you today.
