Hi everyone,

I don't know about you guys, but back in the mid 80's through to early 90's - when I was frantically playing games, doing Amstrad things, reading Amstrad magazines etc the radio in the background was always playing... so, these days whenever I hear the below artists/songs, it kinda takes me back to that time  Anyone else kind of associate music with the good old days? or have any songs/bands they used to hear and associate with those times?  ** Disclaimer: I do not necessarily like or dislike any of the below **

No that was an early George Michael solo after he left Wham.


Back in the Mid-80s I got a few of those Compilation Cassettes (with 18 tracks from Various Artists), which I've still got. Some of the songs still appeal, though I have to go through them all again.

I associate the Prince's album Sign o the Times (late '87 / early '88) with Spindizzy and Saboteur, and strangely enough with Twinings Mango flavoured black tea (doesn't exist anymore and Twining's quality has dropped immensely since that days).

I've never seen the advertising, but yeah, loose leaf packaging aka metal boxes. Their Earl Grey still comes in metal boxes, but since they are bergamot flavoured only with just a tinge of the real thing, I avoid them.

I certainly get happy childhood flashbacks when I hear Chain Reaction by Diana Ross, Come On Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners, Cars by Gary Numan, I've Got My Mind Set On You by George Harrison, Kids in America by Kim Wilde, The Final Countdown by Europe and probably loads of others but I literally just woke up so my brain is still booting up.   But yeah I miss being a kid in the 80's.  It's like the world was a dark place under threat from nukes and aids (I remember the scary commercial about that) and everyone just decided hey who cares if we die tomorrow, let's just have all sorts of silly fun today!

That's what happens when you try typing when the computer has only just booted up and is still loading up crap in the background.  It must have stalled while I was typing and I hadn't noticed.   Fun how it managed to do it between the exact amount of words to do that though.   Fixed!

There was loads of cool synth pop, in particular Eurythmics. Metallica were at their best in the mid 80's, as were Anthrax. Megadeth too. Iron Maiden have always been awesome. Then there was the emergence of hip hop and techno, house and rave music.

Now its terrorists and ebola. Same shit. Thats how politics works, keeping us divided and ruling us through fear. Lest we all unite and realise who the real enemy of us all is and take our planet back from them.

Oh oh, yeah Take on Me and Heaven is a Place on Earth are tracks in my Winamp's 80's playlist.  I like those.

Also White Wedding by Billy Idol, Boys of Summer by Don Henley, Take My Breath Away by Berlin, The Power of Love by Huey Lewis & the News, Rush Hour by Jane Wiedlin, Eternal Flame by The Bangles, She Sells Sanctuary by The Cult, Going Underground by The Jam, and We Built This City and Nothing's Going to Stop Us Now both by Starship.   And there's likely others too.  These all take me back to a happier place.

Oh and Ghostbusters by Ray Parker, Jr.  Can't believe I forgot that one, with the amount of times I play the games and watch the movies and cartoon.   

Ahhhh, and Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springsteen, which is significant because I actually performed it in a school assembly when I was about 7 or 8, totally dressed exactly like he is in the video and doing the moves.   Even pulled a girl I fancied onto the stage like he does with the then young and unknown Courteney Cox.  Ah, good times.   That flashback makes me think perhaps I've always been happier on stage being somebody else rather than myself.

Heh, I'm making an 80's-like game in the style of an 80's computer and based on an 80's sci fi movie.  Yeah, it's my fave decade.  Hated the 90's though.  Really truly loathed that time.

MrV... ok, ok... so I was a little biased with my choices (and, I have to admit I still have the Eighth Wonder and Belinda Carlisle albums somewhere)
So, for a proper 80s album! I have wrestled with my conscience and despite having OPTICAL RACE, LE PARC, TANGRAM and the almighty WHITE EAGLE to choose from, this one would sum-up the whole decade for me... I spent too many hours infront of my 464 and 6128 listening to this!



Without a doubt, my favourite Tangerine Dream album; I still use it now to get my out of depression.
(it's playing in the background as I type and I'm annoying the neighbours with my loud singing!)
