Sadly I had to use emulation for the GX4000 (for reasons well known around these parts) but I devoted a good large section of the video to it:
Why was there no Pang on regular CPC? I'm not a massive fan of the game but I remember being annoyed I couldn't buy it on 464 when even the Spectrum got it.
No mention of Zap T Balls? :)
One element that bothers me about the GX4000 version is the fact that the game automatically starts. You plug it in, turn it on, the title screen appears & BANG! You're in the game without even pushing a button. Other than that it's total quality & even my fiancee loves it!!

Only the Trade-in-Post beta version auto-starts. The retail version has a demo you have to skip.
Interesting. What are the main differences between the versions?
Backdrops, the startup sequence, some powerups etc.... Get the retail one, it is much better.

No, because it's crap. :D
Seriously, it's a poor Pang rip off that is vastly over-rated. It's like supermarket cola v the "real thing".
And my version of Pang never auto started (and many of you are playing my version if you downloaded it ;D )

Dunno! I bought the retail one for my 6128+ and have loved it ever since. It's an awesome game.

True, but I thought it was interesting when it was released. At the time it felt very demo-ey with the graphics as they were.

All I remember about it was that it was extremely pink, hard to see the sprites from the backdrops, and the main character looked too much like Rainbow Islands/Parasol Stars sprite. :)

Mine has jumps straight into the game, has the alternative background for Mt Fuji, the plane sprite is messed up and no backgrounds from Australia onwards. I assume they're all the same. There are a few previous discussions on this from some time ago. I think the Trade-in-Post carts were ex-store demo, so the Pang cartridge probably got pushed out for promo purposes
before it was complete.

The ball/balloon physics are absolutely abysmal. I tried it again the other week in case I needed to mention it for the Pang review. I decided not to as it wouldn't add anything. Graphics are messy, ball physics are awful and its no fun at all.

I agree, Pang is a fantastic game for the GX4000 / PLUS
It sounds like you have been very unlucky with your past consoles, saying that, I think you should get another. ;D
Just make an offer on one of those new old stock one's on ebay, nice to get a new old system cheap while you can, I picked one up not long ago for £30
The power supply that comes with it is the Spanish version I believe, but like you said, you need to buy a good power supply so your system doesn't get fried.
I think it's a great time to get a GX4000, if you get the C4CPC from Gerald, then you will be able to play Pang and all the other games released on original hardware again. :)
Also you will be able to play all the new converted games that myself and other's have done. ;)

I did experiment with crowd funding a while back but it didn't go well. I set up a Patreon but it got a bad reaction so I quickly dropped the idea (I felt bad about doing it to begin with). Also someone kindly sent me an ST which solved the problem I was having at the time not being able to cover ST games.
I run the channel for pleasure. To share games I like, to discover new games myself and showcase a few stinkers. And to do this while we can still use the original gear. I won't run adverts on the channel because they are irritating for viewers and the revenue benefit doesn't outweigh the annoyance factor.
A Plus would be lovely but we all know how costly they are. Ironically back in the early 2000's I knew of someone selling new Plus machines for about 30 quid a time (no monitor) and got one for a friend for his birthday. Should have got one myself but I was short of space at the time. Such is life!
I currently have 4 plus machines here 2 of each flavour. If I could guarantee that I was not going to have any failures I'd donate one. I'll keep an eye on the Irish auction sites and buy one if I see it for a reasonable price ;) it seems silly to have to emulate one system when the quality suffers as a result. I have pang and can confirm it is silky smooth.
Thanks for the excellent work on the channel I love your videos and if I can help, I will.

Cheers. That's very good of you. I do try to keep the CPC coverage up as the CPC is the system I owned and used the longest as my main machine (and I was a full on CPC fanboy at school and I guess I still am). It was also the first computer I ever used (a friend got a 464 early 1985). The knowledge I have from all those years hopefully helps breaks down some misconceptions about the machine.
The real CPC gives 50 fps you say.
Why should that give a jerky movement in an emulator? Aren't emulators able to produce 50 fps too?
Granted, the YouTube video is only 25 fps which of course will give jerkiness. Can't you upload 50 fps vids to YouTube and then get a smooth result equal to that of the emulator which is equal to that of the real CPC?

ChinnyVision has been 50 fps since November of last year. From REAL hardware for nearly every machine covered. However I don't own a GX or Plus.
I don't really have the time or inclination to mess around with emulators trying to get them to output a perfect 50 FPS signal. It's not what the channel is about. All the time, effort and money goes into the real stuff. That involves expensive capture hardware and multiple setups (for example if I go from a Atari ST and then use a CPC I have to do a total rewire and swap kit over). On the very rare occasion I use emulation it's captured straight from the emulator itself (e.g. when my MSX refused to load Continental Circus the other week)
However Winape does not output video that is usable for my purposes so I have to use a separate screen capture utility and then post-sync the audio. It's fiddly, annoying and drops frames. I can't do much about it and in the grand scheme of things there are hundreds of channels showing emulated footage and only one that shows such a wide variety of machines from real hardware at 50fps at the highest quality possible.

Well I haven't checked other videos, but this one is 25 fps. Then it doesn't matter if it was recorded with 50 fps.

Ok that explains it.
I'm pretty sure WinAPE saves a video in 50 fps. But obviously if using another screen recorder, there's no sync between those two applications and frames will be dropped.

The Pang video is 50PS. See below. The GX4000 version may have dropped frames but all the capture from real hardware is 50FPS and the edit was 50FPS.

Ok that's weird. I don't get those options here.
I get 360p as the only choice. I can't select a 720p video with 50fps.
I downloaded the video with youtube-dl for Linux, which gives me a 1280x720 resolution video with 25 fps.

Not sure what is going on but it is 50fps. Just double checked to ensure Youtube hadn't missed it up and the C64 sprites are as smooth as you'd expect.
Suggest another computer, browser or operating system. Not sure why the downloader doesn't work but I suspect it isn't officially supported. Sorry.

Yea, trying with Opera and Chromium everything is fine. 720p 50fps is selected automatically and a lot of other options too.
Apparently a Firefox problem then. (This browser is increasingly disappointing).
Downloaded latest version of youtube-dl but it's still only 25 fps when downloading, so you're probably right there too.
I should just mention that I'm not looking to download anything. I only did that to check the framerate because I couldn't believe it was 50 fps as you wrote. And it wasn't either, but it was Firefox' fault - mixed with a youtube-dl flaw or incompatibility.
Mystery solved.

Cool. I went 50FPS as soon as Youtube made it available to me. Although the titles remain 25fps (in a 50FPS timeline) as that was a deliberate decision. Looked wrong at 50fps.

On windows, 720p50Hz is available with Firefox (40.0.3).
On Linux (ESR 38.2.1), only auto and 360.
More Linux+firefox than a firefox alone issue.

About 75 euro, I'll pay 25 and the postage of the keyboard to chinnyvision if anyone can add the rest?

This is really good of you. I'm ordering up an RGB cable so I can get capturing.
I'll look into getting a C4CPC. Away from home at the mo but I'll re-read the thread and will get onto it as I'll need to get one.
Cheers.
Update - RGB cable ordered. Fingers crossed I can capture from the beast when it arrives (long time viewers will know I struggled with the RGB out from the Speccy for a long time and still can't do MSX RGB although that might be an issue with my MSX).
Power supply is the same as a standard CPC isn't it? 5v positive tip. My 6128 has a 3 amp supply which should be more than enough.

yes the power supply is identical to the CPC range. The monitor din socket is also the same functionality (just with 2 extra pins for the audio channels)
I made an adaptor for the plus to ctm 644 when my first cm14 went pop.

Cheers. The cable I've ordered is from Retro Computer Shack which is the same place I got my CPC one.
A few months back I thought I'd found a capture solution that worked for everything but the CPC and the Megadrive won't play ball so they require a total rewire of the setup when I use them.
It's all down to the RGB to component stage (I have to capture as component). I have a fancy pants Pioneer DVD recorder that will do it for me live straight into the capture card, but it simply refuses to accept the CPC's signal. However I have a Panasonic that will work with the CPC (but not a load of other machines). So I end up juggling machines and cables.

I won't bust a gut in trying to find it then. Do you have pro tennis tour on cart? If not I'll bundle a copy of that in with the bundle. I have 3 or 4 spare that I bought as donor carts, but now the c4cpc exists, I don't need them any more!

No carts here at all. After my carts were copied I moved house and as I no longer had a GX they all went in a big bin (after all I now had digital copies) along with my original and very worn out 6128 (should have kept the chips but this was 2001 and CPC's were very cheap and easily available).

Just had a PM from Gerald asking which version of the cart I need. The options are:
If you intend to use the card with a 6128/464 plus, select which system cartridge to be installed in cart slot 0 from the list : English original English patched (Amsdos, without start menu) English with ParaDos
I assume I'll need the original version as that will boot to some sort of menu? I assume the menu version can also exit to AMSDOS?

The difference is whether you get the menu to choose between Basic and Burnin' Rubber at start up or whether it just goes straight into basic (you can still start Burnin' Rubber with |game).
Whichever you choose you can change your mind later by just changing files on the SD card.

That's when you select the CprSelect cartridge.
The card allow direct access to 16 cards (slots), selected by dip switches.
One of these (slot 15) is CprSelect which gives access to cpr stored anywhere on the SD card.
The question about which system you prefer in slot 0 is just to prepare the card for you ;)

In my plus i have a patched version of of the stock cart, so a couple of bugs are fixed, and all 32 roms are initialised. But I also have fw3.15 and paradox in cart slot 1, so dip switch 1 toggles between fw3.15 and stock.
On the c4cpc in the gx4000 I leave it defaulting to slot 15 and use the game selector all the time. Just confirming the cart selector works on the plus as well.
I'll test your plus with both setups before I post it on.

OK the 464plus for chinnyhill arrived with me this morning. I quickly tested it before heading to work. All looks good ;) I do not even have to replace the membrane. Which is a shock to be honest.
It's a little yellowed, but not that ugly 'Amiga brown' shade.
I'll load some tapes and post it on by the weekend (rwc2015 permitting)

The CPC PSU connectors are almost the same, but not identical. The polarity is the same and both are 5.5mm ring plugs, but the hole in the centre is 2.1mm on a classic CPC and 2.5mm on a Plus so the classic PSU connector won't fit on a plus.
Regarding RGB on the Spectrum. I have a schematic done for an idea to solve this, haven't built one yet, but I'll let you know when I do. Haven't tried MSX on RGB, but I'll give it a try and see if mine has problems.

OK Update.
opened up the 464plus, since one screw and one peg were missing clearly not the first person to open this one!
The membrane looks brand spanking new :) But whoever changed it broke the black back board for the keys, so the number 4 was wobbling around like a nodding dog.
So I swapped over the keys with different functions with my spare (French) layout keyboard and then moved the back and keys onto the apparently new membrane and aluminium backing.
Retest - All fine, all keys work
All labels correct
next test the tape drive.
Load KwikSnax - Yep working
Test supplied controllers...
Pad - Down does nto work, Up Left, Right and both buttons fine
Cheetah 125+ Up does not work, Left right and down and buttons fine
OK
Pad - Stripped down, clean the gunge from all contacts and rubbers. Reassemble and test - Pad all OK
Cheetah 125+ - Stripped downs and cleaned all contacts and leaf springs. Now working. OK someone has been in here before as well, as the autofire switch is not gonna work on the amstrad (Nothing new there) but on this one, as the whole switch is missing and has been replaced by a dab of superglue to hold the button the joystick chassis it ain't never gonna work LOL.
So everything I will be sending over to Chinny is tested and working - Now to convert Stryker from CDT to a real tape so I can test load that and I just have to pack it up and post it.

Will this do? It's 'medical grade apparently so presumably if its good enough for hospitals its good enough for a Plus. :D

So everything I will be sending over to Chinny is tested and working - Now to convert Stryker from CDT to a real tape so I can test load that and I just have to pack it up and post it.

Getting a bit excited about this. It's a bit like Christmas! :D
Don't use Switchmode PSU's, get a regulated one. Cheapest at Amazon.

What do you mean a "regulated" one? The one I linked to is a medical grade switched mode REGULATED supply. Did you read the specification?
If you are suggesting I should go and buy some cheap Chinese rubbish from Amazon then, no, that won't be happening. Whenever I buy PSU's for any old my old computers and consoles I always use RS because they are a reputable supplier who supply data sheets and certificates of conformity. Not only peace of mind for my equipment but also peace of mine I won't be electrocuted or my house will burn down.

I assume you talk about linear regulated PSU. Unless you make it yourself, good luck finding a new one on the market ;)

2A may be a bit short. A 6128plus is rated at 2.4A. I don't what are the 464plus.
A 2.5A would be better.
This topic has gotten a bit too techy and dull. Talk about Pang some more.

Ah yes but was it ever decided on whether they were balls, balloons or bubbles or even some kind of sentient alien life form? These are important issues the world must come together and find an answer for!

But, but ... I've always been told that 42 was the answer :o
Good news is that i've found an adaptor that will turn my existing CPC PSU connector to the size required for the plus. So hopefully problem solved.

Recently bought one from Amazon, runs well, got a well price. Posted that in some PSU thread... dunno remember where it is now. The forum search function is very strict as we know. :)
