Interesting article. Is it true that the PC-1512 was unreliable? If so, and it was not the (missing) fan, what was the source of the unreliability? Anybody can share their own experience regarding reliability? Never saw a PC-1512 "in person".

The 1512 (and 1640) were marvelous machines!

I have never witnessed one of them bad boys being unreliable for any reason.

- Faster than your normal PC-XT of the time;
- All in one design, compact and much better to look at in comparison with that ghastly IBM PC;
- SILENT! Well, the version without the harddrive  ;) ;
- Great bundle with mouse and software included in the package;
- Cool little touches here and there like the AA batteries, speaker volume control and easily accessible expansion bay.

I'm not fond of the PC-XT era but give me an amstrad 1512 or 1640 anytime  :D

Yeah, they really should have sold it with an SSD :D

I bought a PC 1512 with double 5,25 drive in 1988, I never had problems with it.
I upgraded it to 640 Kb, 32 Mo RLL hard drive, 1 Mo EMS/XMS card.
My heart broked when I had to leave it in 2012...
My heart is a bit better since yesterday I did boot an Amstrad PPC 640 with its dos 3.3 though !

1512 was a good machine at the time IMO. Shame about the fake news about fans, but it was a great value PC.
