IIRC, the boot ROM beeps 3 times if it fails to load the boot sector. The standard boot sector beeps 4 times if it fails to load the EMS / EMT file.

The Cirtech Gem hard drive adds:
1 beep - Trying to load an incompatible EMS / EMT file.
2 beeps - Hard drive read error (not ready?)
3 beeps - a suitable EMS / EMT file could not be found.
5 beeps - partition table checksum incorrect, reformat the drive with HDSETUP.

I had been looking in most places and was unable to find anything but the 3 Beeps.
