Hi all!
We want to create a map with the location of the old Amstrad CPC computers.
We needn't the exact location, knowing the city is enough for us.
Optionally, you can enter the nickname you use on Amstrad's social networks.
We do not store your email address.
When we have a significant number of responses we will publish a map.
The link where you can participate is https://forms.gle/HTTyki8MUEoXwbms5
We prefer the location on geodetic coordinates format that you can get in https://www.openstreetmap.org/ (search your city, double click and share, then you can see the coordinate below "Geo URI" label.
For example, for Paris is 33.6706,-95.5442
Thanks you
I had done something of the sort some aeons ago, seemingly.
Looking forward to the result! You can also see the the stats of the forum members, I think? Not sure, can't check from phone.
Great idea! :) :) :)
How are you going to keep this informations up-to-date?
Btw. I think if one can choose a 472 it should also be possible to be a 464 Plus oder 6128 Plus owner. :-)
PLUS models added

exporting data to CVS, then with a script
But what will happen if I move home? How could the location be changed and how do you verify, that it's really me (and not anybody else) changing my location?
I already made my entry, btw. :-)
Nickname I guess?

you can fill a new form with the same nickname, it will delete the previous data
I see... But if the vandals occur that are known on "different Wikis" maybe Gryzor will tomorrow be "relocated" to Constantinople...
Please no, traffic is even worse there 😁
"For example, for Paris is 33.6706,-95.544"
Ahh, you mean Paris, Texas 😂😂, that's not coordinates for Paris, France!
Awesome!
My answer is in too!
No GX4000, PC1512/1640, PCW or NCs on the map? ;D
Added my data. When will the map be available?
My data is in, as well.
I added my info, great idea, I can't wait to see the result ! :)
Added mine. I'd be interested in GX4000s too!
Mine's in. Looking forward to seeing all the local Amstrads I didn't know about!
Done! looking forward to see how CPCs are spread around the world :)

NOT a dating site😁
Trying to convince some stubborn friends to join ???
Posted the Link in the German CPC main forum. Hope this helps to make the CPC map more comprehensive. :)
I'm make some modifications... ;D
New URL to introduce data: http://pocholi.ddns.net:9876/amstradmap/new.html (http://pocholi.ddns.net:9876/amstradmap/new.html)

Nice map!
Can it be pinned somewhere so that's it's always available and won't get lost?
I still cannot load the links.
Quote from: VincentGR on 21:21, 22 December 22I still cannot load the links.
insert :9876 after the host
Me neither...
Looks like I am the only CPC owner in Ireland. That can't be right!
Where am I?
;D
EDIT:
I'm in the ocean...
EDIT 2:
Re entered but my nick is not displayed.
Some data were lost :picard: while I was migating data from google forms to the server database,
so it's possible you nick doesn't appear, but you can add again
I would say that it is already stable, it just needs to be put to good use.
It seems that the day with the flu served for something...
This is so good! Hmmm, there's not many Brits...........
Connection still times out for me... 😐

@VincentGR can't see any pin in the sea around Greece.

Oh -hahaha, how's the weather over there mate? :D
I thought it had you in the sea near the actual location!
This reminded me of that one time I was trying to convince PowerBI to give me a map of our client list, and it got it mostly correct except that there were quite a few customers in the Peruvian Andes :D
Quote from: Gryzor on 10:27, 23 December 22Yessss I can see it now!
The problem is that even though the text of the original links has the :9876 showing, the *actual* link has them missing. One more SMF quirk :D
Really? Interesting...

Hm, works for me...
Couple of minor suggestions:
Get rid of the entries with blank nicknames, and don't let them be entered on the update page.
And do a bit of validation on the lat/long values before storing them - Tom et Jerry's entry is invalid and throws an error in the js console, stopping any entries after it from being displayed...

Thank you
I have to validate the coordinates, I realized later, but it's solved.
I think the nickname must be optional, there may be users who do not want to say which equipment they have.
That people can contribute to the map. In case the nickname were mandatory they could fill any word.
The target is a cpc map, not users.
Except you use the nickname as a key for updating entries. Can't do that unless it's unique. And there's no way to manage duplicates.
Instead you could include a checkbox for "be anonymous". The nickname is still stored but it's replaced with '' when generating the map data.
I'ts look like half people are in Spain. :o

You are right. It is not possible two equal nicknames. I'm going to add a password for the purpose of avoid to other people modify the register, and a field "visible"
Could we rename this thread into "Learning to web-dev"? ;)

It would be deserved.
I recognize that I am a dabbler. :picard2:
The truth is that many modifications have come out of the feedback.
Don't worry, we all learn through our personal projects... If people knew of the gaping security hole on the forum
Wait what? Nothing to see here people, move on...

I added my info too, I'm the one from Ukraine it seems
Add Aleste to the list?

No, that was not meant to judge you as a developer, just more of a tongue-in-cheek hint towards my impression that this map was kind of a iteratively evolving group effort - which is great! :)
:) Any chance Santa will make an appearance on the map? :)

I didn't know it. In my opinion it has enough differences to make them incompatible with the Amstrad CPC standard.
An interesting machine for sure. Very rare, too...
Nice idea, well done! just entered!
+1
Good idea, thanks !
Interestingly, if you scroll to the left or right until you reach Europe again, it's not populated..
Sadly lots of sceners are still missing. But hopefully they'll read this thread one day :-)
And the gx4000 the gx4000!! and 6128 solavox!. >:( and if was amstrad related i left the spectrum models (made by amstrad) plus the amstrad nn-900 :D
No New Zealand owners on the map yet? I know they're out there...
And good on Amstrad for releasing the CPC down here. They seemed to do pretty well, too. I don't think they bothered with the Plus though.
A few WACCI members came from NZ and the chap that wrote the program below was also from there.

That looks like a great terminal.
Quote from: Gryzor on 13:39, 01 February 23That looks like a great terminal.
I had used the CPM MEX.COM for a few years and though it did the job it was generic and did not use the 6128 to full advantage.
BBS Terminal V5.04/AnsiTerm was a giant leap in terms of functionality and ease of use - in fact it was the main reason I was still using the 6128 up to 98 or 99.
Back to topic: From some German CPC sceners I did hear, that they had problem to enter their data into the map.
Can somebody please drop me the actual working links, then I will forward them... Thanks! :)
http://pocholi.ddns.net:9876/amstradmap/map.html
It has the link to register new users.
If they have problems tell me, it is possible that the token I use to get the location is expired
It's missing GX4000 :)
Thanks Fran123, your information has been forwarded. :) :) :)
