Hi, does anyone have or know a place to download PKXARC for 64bit windows?

remax

Do you specifically need PKXArc ?

Cause quite a lot compressor supports the arc format.

Hi, still looking :D

I am yet to find unarj for windows 11 so that I can unarj pkarc.arj...  but a pkarc or unarc that works would be fantastic!

I did search google but no luck yet.

So... what's UNARC for?

CPC DECADE CD - The CPC's 10th Anniversary CD ROM
==================================================

VORAX proudly presents the CPC 10th Anniversary CD ROM, probably the greatest
compilation in history for any 8-bit computer with more than 1500 commercially
released games with over 20,000 files totalling more than 150MB uncompressed.
Also included is over 35MB of utilities and programming aids which make this CD
a must for all serious users as well as games players.

What is a CPC?
--------------
A CPC is an 8-bit Z80 based 'PC' released in 1984 as a tape based 464 model then
again as a 3" disc drive model 664 and 6128.  In 1992 we saw the release of the
enhanced models 464plus and 6128plus which have 4096 colours, DMA sound and an
extra cartridge port.

The uniqueness of the CPC's which have allowed them to outlive many other
computers (ie Atari ST) is in their amazing hardware and software flexibility.
A CPC can have over 4.5MB of memory and run a version of almost every popular
program from WP to DTP.  Just about every programming language is available
and almost every game released.

This CD was produced to preserve the memories of this wonderful machine.

Using the software on this CD
-----------------------------

CPC Users:
Copy UNARC.COM from CD\CPC Utilities file area.
Copy the program ARC files you want.
Enter CP/M and extract the ARChive files with UNARC.COM.

CPC EMU users:
Use ARJ.EXE from CD\IBM file area.
        Copy UNARC.DSK from CD\CPC\DIMAGE.
Copy BLANK.DSK (a blank disc image).
Copy the ARC files into the CPCEMU TAPE directory.
Run CPCEMU and insert the UNARC.DSK disc image.
        Type '|CPM'.
Type 'cload' and select the program.
Use NSWEEP to give the transfered file a filename.

Some CPC commands:
        CAT - catalogue the disc.
RUN "<filename>" - run a program (either .BIN or .BAS).
        |CPM - Enter CPM.
        |era,"<filename>" - delete a file.
        |ren,"<newfile>","<oldfile>" - rename a file.
        USE CPM TO COPY ETC.

Other Goodies
-------------

This CD also contains the following:

Some Pictures in the IFF file format.
        Some Music Modules.
The files of an entire BBS.
        And some bonus files.

Odd this forum we cannot upload BMP files, nor ARC files...

GeoffB17

Some folks get all the luck!

I'm on a MIDI forum, and that won't let you attach a .mid file.

Same solution for all though.   Just zip it up?

Geoff

zhulien

some ARC files for you to unarc, let me know how you did it please afterwards

not even a 16 KB ROM file.  :-\

Then you need to drag & drop the files in WinApe File manager.
You must create & format a blank disk before, naturally.

Many thanks, seems to do the trick - I spoke too soon, it is a paid service.

Uh? No, I manage to use it freely. You should turn AdBlockPlus on : maybe you're seeing an ad telling you to register?
Eh, where did you get this CD-ROM by the way ? You should share it with us; maybe we could find some hidden treasures.  ;D
Edit:
On this forum, they say IZARC can uncompress ARC files : https://forums.atariage.com/topic/284733-down-loaded-arc-files/
https://www.izarc.org/downloads
I haven(t tested yet.

The CDROM I made in 1994 when blank CDs cost about AU$120 each.  To make it I had another guy who had a BBS and a few others pool together to have it burned, because at the time only large organisations had CDWriters - and we couldn't just burn 1 for $120, we had to burn about 10.  I will try upload it somewhere.

Here it is... it's 120mb.  Perhaps another person who maintains other CPC archives can grab it and see if there is anything interesting in it.

https://8bitology.net/files/CPCDecade.zip

contents described here:

https://8bitology.net/files/AMSDOS.DOC
https://8bitology.net/files/CPMPLUS.DOC
https://8bitology.net/files/GAMES40.DOC
https://8bitology.net/files/PDGAMES.DOC
https://8bitology.net/files/UTILS.DOC
https://8bitology.net/files/UTILS40.DOC

The filenames with 40 in it I modified discology6 to load the protected software and save itself as a memory dump, so when you run it, it loads up and continues in discology6 to save it.  At the time I couldn't think of another way to do it.  For those you need 256k RAM and a 360K drive B  to bring them back to floppy disc.

btw, they are not word documents, they are text files.

zhulien

There are quite a lot of Demos there too, Dragonbreed patcher is there, I suspect the games are likely covered in most places, but Ace who is local in Australia did most of the Australian cracks which included turning most protected games into file loaders at the time so we could run them from drive b.

zhulien

Let me know the treasure you find :D

IZARC seems to work PERFECT!!! So happy, many thanks!

Jean-Marie

Much obliged  :) I'm gonna sieve it out ! I had read a post stating that some WACCI PD discs were missing. I shall test my luck and let you know...

That's a real trove  :) I've found some PD/type-ins text adventures that are unlisted and/or unknown in the CPC Databases. There's even what seems to be an unreleased commercial game (Blackie the pirate), but it is buggy and needs to be fixed.
Here are the gold nuggets (and certainly more to come) :
Edit:Blackie the pirate is another name for the spanish game Black Beard :/

zhulien

I have put cpc.ftp.nvg online as it was about 1999 or so.  I am low on server space so once you have that and CPC Decade, I will put cpc.ftp.lip6 online so you can grab that.

Please let me know if you have grabbed nvg or if you don't want it.

Jean-Marie

Most interesting! It could contain some lost stuff. I have just stowed both files in my Onedrive stash. Thanks a bunch ;D

Jean-Marie

9 "new" titles that were missing, untyped or simply unknown.
This is some educational stuff mostly. More to come!

I have attached the nomarch tool compiled for windows, in case that you prefer to use the command line for unpacking those old .ark files.
