I just typed a french annex to the Arnor Utopia (http://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/Utopia) manual, and I found pretty disturbing how some things were translated. ???
The guy who did the annex refers to the english manual as "booklet rosbif" and tells that if the Verify command fails, Scotland Yard is giving you a list of the differences... :D
Is the guy really mad, or is it some kind of french humor that I don't quite get?

Yes , it is French humor (some French people uses this word to speak about English people , i think English have the same type of joke (things like froggy eater and so on)).It is really a funny translation , the guy had fun with it :D
I may add this manual is full of typical French humor, your exemples are not alone, there a lot of other , like theses :

Even though I speak french quite fluently, I never really got french humour. L'academie Francaise was very, very bad in that respect - they never taught anything about pop culture...

I like it, especially when it's sarcastic - and the French are good at this :)

This one is difficult to translate as French people have a special relation with its Police.You juste have to imagine an old Policeman used to use a typewritter trying to type on a computer with two digits.

"échafaud" refers implicitly to "guillotine" , so the designed files are like sentenced to death.
