Title: Cheap Golf, a great Atari-style minigolf game from 2017 with an AI parody
Post by: cwpab on 14:05, 31 March 25
While looking for old/flash mini-golf games, I discovered this a few days ago:

The game can be played for free by googling ["cheap golf" play online].

It's a minigolf game inspired by the Atari 2600, with a ball that's a fucking huge square. And there's an AI sending you messages with Amstrad CPC fonts.

It's the most fun game I've played in some time. Check it out!

Just in case the site offers the game illegally.

By the way, don't trust the hysterical GIF, I added it only to show the game.

Playing is actually much more quiet, and the combination of the AI messaging you as it's clearly becoming too-curious-to-confort with the super cool music and sounds is really nice. And most stages are not that convoluted! (the ones with the keys have a 10+, and sometimes 30+ stroke par as they try to be 2600's Adventure, lel)

I did play it, some of the stages have been copied by other mini golf games but it's well done and fun.

I'm still trying to pass this stage...

Nope nope nope nope, that's the most deliberately frustrating control scheme possible. I'd rather tear off a limb than fight it any further.

Yeah, the thing is... When you move the cursor to a border of the screen, it goes crazy. I'm not sure what it's trying to do.  But suddenly the mouse sensitivity is multiplied by 10.

Despite of this, I have reached this level, which must be around 40 or so. And I ALMOST finished it yesterday. ALMOST. But with 15+ strokes left, I couldn't pass the main corridor to the hole due to my own mouse doing its own ghost clicking. Oh well.

I just beat it! The last part with more than 10 strokes was difficult just because I was nervous AND trying to put the cursor on the border, which causes the sensitivity control bug. The trick was to move the cursor down and advance by hitting the upper wall.
