Title: Donkey Kong arcade port on C64
Post by: Oliver Lindau on 13:36, 05 November 16
Hellos,

at last X party a new port of Donkey Kong was released by Oxyron. coded by Peiselulli, titletrack by Linus (SID version of Donkey Kong Country) and graphics by me.

It may seem a bit useless because there are already two official versions existing for the C64 and at least the Ocean release was solid. Well, this homebrew version is a proof-of-concept-project and is literally based on the arcade version. So the main process was translating the Z80 code to 6502 by using a patched MAME and rebuilding that version for the Commodore. Rebuilding because some specs of the arcade version are a too much to handle for the C64, but they do not affect the gameplay - like using upper border for the playfield, reducing the ape to 4 sprites, and similar things...

The game supports also NTSC systems, so it is possible to play the game at 60fps like the original (which is shown in the video).

Btw Indie Retro News came up with a nice version comparison screen:

The game can be downloaded at CSDb

The CPC version may be arcade perfect, but this really looks cute!
