...listing the ten most influential computers of all time:
- Xerox Alto (no objection there)
- IBM PC -1981 (here either)
- BBC Micro (hmmm... even if 80% of schools had one, it is my understanding that British schools could choose other models too, so even if they had a Micro maybe they also had a few ZX's... Also: UK-only)
- Macintosh (really? A market failure by all accounts, if you want to make it part of some legacy perhaps you should stop right there at the Alto, or perhaps the Lisa?)
- Big Beige Box (meaning, all PC clones. And, ummmm... wasn't that the IBM PC's real significance? wtf?)
- IBM ThinkPad (hm, I don't know that much about the history of laptops)
- Apple iMac (what the...)
- MacBook Air (ok, how much were they paid by Apple?)
- Chromebook (say what?)
- ........ no, really, it says "Microsoft Surface".

Discuss.
Paid and drunk.
It's The Guardian FFS! That's like complaining about the Gardening Tips in Playboy!
Bryce.
Hey, well, it depends on what you're gardening :D
I didn't mean THAT sort of bush trimming.
Bryce.
Seeing as tons of Playboy sketches always had to do with gardening, can't really believe you :D
I only read it for the articles! Honest! :D
Bryce.
...and that's why you subscribed again when they announced they're bringing nudes back. Pure coincidence!
Ok, back on track :D
Feel free to delete the last 6 posts :)
Bryce.
Friday afternoon.
...meh.
I was going to make exactly the same joke ;D
Too late, friend.
Certainly ;D . I went through the article very quickly and it seems that the writer thinks that the desktops do not exit anymore and all the computing is done in laptops and tablets. I must be a dinosaur for keeping big boxes around when I could stack 30 laptops and make a cluster with them! :picard: :D
Now I know what sort of nightmare I'm having tonight: a cluster of SURFACEs!!!
I'm sick of the attitude that desktops are dead and no-one will use them because mobile phones, tablets and laptops have taken over especially tablets.
I hear it and see articles saying it far too often.
It annoys me to no end! Most of my customers (I do computer repair) think that laptops replaced desktop. If they see a desktop then they think it's old no matter if it's fitted with the latest processor and nvidia graphics cards.
The suggestion that phones and tablets can replace proper computers annoys me too. Yep, I'm very annoyed this week  flu, but my partner insists it's the man flu :P The FACT is, an Amstrad CPC is more productive for many tasks over a tablet and especially a smart phone! Yet many would see it as a toy!
