noice, mate... this makes me moist.
I had that caveman game. It was awesome.
Looks like a great show. The cameraman should cut down on the coffee though, he's shaking all over the place at some points :D
Bryce.
Nice coverage. :) Thanks a lot!
I see you seem to have the same problem as me when I record videos using my cellphone. Audio and video aren't synced properly.
After a lot of searching (some time back) I found this surprisingly simple solution:
ffmpeg -i file.mp4 -vcodec copy -acodec copy fixedfile.mkv
The mkv file has audio synced properly to the video. (Don't ask why). Then I made a function to do that with all my files in a folder:
function fixall() {
for f in *.mp4; do ffmpeg -i $f -vcodec copy -acodec copy $f.mkv; done
}
I always run that function before I start editing, and finally my videos are synced properly.
QuoteThe cameraman should cut down on the coffee though, he's shaking all over the place at some points
I would say the main issue is that his Camera is badly set, as you see all CRT monitors flickering like hell...

I'm enjoying this podcast :) , perhaps it would be better to have one post and update it when new chapters appears, then we would have all the related information in one post, much more easy to search and consult :)
Glad you are enjoying the show and yes, you are right about keeping everything in one folder. Could a mod merge the posts?
Cheers
Out of curiosity... it has a barcode... why? Is there a boxed/printed version?
No, the bar code is just a mock up. The whole idea of the magazine covers is to re-capture those old style magazines from back in the day because our podcast is done in a magazine format.
Thanks for merging the threads Gryzor :)
Yeah thanks a lot for merging the threads and I'm really pleased that the show is going down so well with you guys!

Well, just my opinion. ... without that barcode it would look more beautiful. But as sait just my opinion.
Really like this episode. Good work!

I have enjoyed specially the interview with the Bitmap Brothers... but the sound in that part was not good, too low and i had to up the volume a lot ;)
Thanks, yes the volume was a problem on the interview as you correctly pointed out. The audio for that section was directly from the video footage that we took.

How much do I have to donate to get rid off the barcode? :P
What's wrong with the barcode? Barcodes were introduced to Commercial/Domestic products (such as Magazines) for pricing in the mid to late 70's. You can't get much more retro than that!
Bryce.
The barcode is the sign of the devil. Just check out the three pairs of lines which never show a number, they always are 666.
And honestly in the 80ies - like I remember - nothing had a damn barcode. Todays stuff all has that evil thing though. Not one of my CPC products ever had one.
They haven't been used commecially in the 70ies either:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcode#Industrial_adoption (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barcode#Industrial_adoption)
"The very first scanning of the now ubiquitous Universal Product Code (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Product_Code) (UPC) barcode was on a pack of Wrigley Company (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrigley_Company) chewing gum in June 1974." - Taken from the page you just linked to.
I'm not superstitious, so that devil stuff doesn't interest me.
Bryce.
There is nothing superstitious, the interaction of energy fields and signs on products is nothing new in research. Public is just not informed. But this is getting offtopic. In my opinion a barcode is a ugly piece of wasted space and something negative. Satanists like it though

Another great episode! Will you do an episode on the Atari ST and also the MSX?
We really want to cover the ST but none of us actually owned one back in the day, so we will have to get a guest on to talk about it... So if you fancy getting on the show, let me know. Same goes for the MSX.
The next half episode (out this Friday) is about ZX Spectrum music so there's a fair bit in there for CPC users as the AY chip stuff gets a lot of attention.

The Archie and PCE? Darn, I was hoping this was about the GX and the Mega STe...
Not sure you can call the PCE "underappreciated", but me falling ill may be a good chance to find out why :)
Hi Swainy,
I'm an avid listener of the Retro Asylum Podcasts, but may I make a suggestion?
Maybe most people listen to these online, but I usually download them to a real iPod and listen to them while out and about (yes I do leave my hardware cave on occassions). The problem is, the Tag data is all over the place. There's no track numbers, the artist varies, the album varies, even the Genre varies and the titles aren't always complete - the latest ones just had Ep. and a number, which even then wasn't correct (or did I get a sneak preview to Ep. 37??), so it's almost impossible to find the one you want on an iPod. Maybe I'm the only person here that doesn't listen to them online, but it would be nice if they were a little easier to use / sort on a real iPod.
The contents are as always - top notch :)
Bryce.
Hmmmm.... another problem with Apple-crap. Better take Amstad stuff! I always use my aPod for listening to podcasts ;)
Can I stroll into town, with a CPC6128, GT65 and a massive battery pack in my pocket? No.
For those situations, modern stuff, even from apple if it has to be, is required.
Bryce.
I don't think the bit about aPod was serious, Bryce! Although I'm sure TFM may well have thought about making one. :D
I know, but I just got this picture in my head of me trying to walk down the street with a CPC based MP3 player in my pocket :D
Bryce.
Well, at 6128 and a monitor on the back, sitting in trains or walking through streets, yes that's the old way we have joined CPC meetings for a long time. And it's a good work out btw. cost free too ;)
But, no seriously. Today it shouldn't be a problem to use a pocket CPC, you can make it as small as the NC200 maybe.
Until you guys finished the hardware, I'll have finished the software - featuring Swainys special tags!

It's EASY, all you need is a battery pack, a GX4000, a digiblaster wired in somewhere and a cartridge containing your audio files. :P
You could knock that up in an evening ;D
P.S, you could hide the whole thing under a beer hat. 8)

It's a good point actually and the episode numbering was probably my fault. Whilst Andy is away I've been uploading these episodes. The trouble is, I work nights and I've been doing it once I get home after a 12 hour shift so I've been rushing it a bit as I just want to go to bed :)
In future I'll make sure that the episode number is correct on the file and that all the info is in the same place on each episode. Glad to hear that you are still enjoying the show though!

Finding the time can indeed be a tricky quest.
Even after buying the retro machine one had as a kid, it ends up being stored in the closet. No time to play.
Unless: You arrange for a retro meeting with your retro mates. Make it an event. That has worked for me. We're holding two kinds of events for our mates: An "Arcade Day" where we go visit an arcade museum and play all the arcade games. And a "Retro Gaming Day" where we bring our own retro machines and play all day. :)
It's been fun!
This year we're going again in April. :)
how did I never spot this podcast?! Been looking for a new retro podcast and here it is!

Always nice to gain new listeners and its never too late to catch up. I hope that you enjoy the show mate!
It's too bad I live very near where I work. The only time I could really listen to podcasts was when commuting, but now I don't get that :D
This is a brilliant episode. The upcoming retro shows they mentioned sounds interesting too.
Retro Asylum's Foggy goes back in time to 1988, a time when the Commodore Amiga was still a new system with a bright gaming future ahead of it. Making the transition from the 8bit machines, what 1988 Amiga titles made an ever lasting impression on this weeks host?

Bit of a late entry as I was busy when this was published last Friday.

Also in this episode we tell you how can win 2 tickets to the biggest Retro Event of the year "Revival" Big thanks to Chris Wilkins for giving us the tickets as a prize give away Also big thanks to Anthony Ogden for being this months Sponsor. (Editors/Andy note ....Because this episode was slightly short due to lack of time and last minute recording I've added a Easter Egg in the show)

Matt digs deeper into the sounds of the mighty SID chip to give you tunes you might not have heard before along with some chat about the chip itself.
Be warned, some technical speak is included free of charge – so don't say we aren't generous! Did you know there has been a real synthesiser designed around the SID & commercially sold? Was SID music a genre in its own right? Are there even more SID tunes out there that better the greats we all now and love? All this and more discussed in this episode.
Hopefully you'll now be inspired to get listening to tunes & musicians outside of the obvious norm.

The UK's No1 Retro Gaming Podcast returns once again with Andy & Swainy as they take another nostalgic trip back to your gaming youth!
The lads discuss GEEK 2013 and what games & systems they have been buying and playing over the past few weeks. Swainy gives the classic budget game Zub by the Pickford Brothers on the ZX Spectrum the once over, we give away more free tickets for Revival in our great exclusive competition, play "Name The Game" and we also take a look at the SEGA range of consoles.

Looking forward to this one. I really enjoyed Denaris C64 tunes episode.
Thanks mate, let me know what you thought of it once you've had a listen :)
Interesting selection and I agree that the Lethal Weapon 3 tune was the best of the bunch. It wouldn't of felt out of place in a double dragon game:)
For me it would of been the The title music for Lotus Esprit 2 and the music from Shadowlands.
Thanks mate, yeah there was loads of tunes that I was on the fence about but I was happy with my final selection. Right, onto this weeks episode!
Foggy is back once again and this time he brought one of our very own Retro Asylum community members SimonLcfc!
This time round the lads take a look at their top top 10 Speccy games from 1984.
We also announce the winner of the 2nd set of tickets to Revival on the 18th of May and also announce the 3rd set of tickets that we will be given away courtesy of Chris Wilkins the organiser of Revival.
We also are happy to announce that the C64 Elite collection is out today and thanks to Steve Wilcox the main man from Elite Systems we will be giving away some iPhone/iPad game codes.
All that plus loads more retro fun and games.

I really like what you guys are doing with the magazine covers!
Looking forward to hearing this next podcast.
Yeah I think people look forward to the covers as much as the actual podcast. It's just our way of bringing back that old magazine vibe :)
Right, I'm a bit late posting this one. It's been a manic week!
In this episode Andy plays you the music that captured his imagination through out the last 30 something years.
This podcast is meant to be an insight into who Andy is by the way of music, just like a Movie soundtrack, this soundtrack should hopefully convey who Andy is by his choice of music and his story.
The tunes we play in this episode, range from ZX Spectrum all the way to the Gamecube,so there should be something for everyone.
Hope you enjoy this episode. please leave us your feedback and please if you haven't already leave us a iTunes review.

Some good musical choices.
Would of liked to have heard more CPC tunes like Wec Le Mans which was different from the speccy and C64 version and is fantastic!
I also would of replaced that Street of Rage music with the second mission music from Double Dragon:)
Great podcast! Keep em coming!
@Swainy - Any news on double dragon remake? Has the 2nd mission music track been created? Would love to hear it in all it's 8 bit beauty!
It's still going ahead but the ball is currently in Jim Bagley's court. He's been very busy with his own stuff but it will happen mate, I'm just not sure when.
Right, another week, another episode.
Part 1 of a 2 part special, Matt interviews Dino Dini who of course is the programmer behind the first two Kick Off games and Goal. Matt & Dino don't shy away from getting technical, talking physics coding and of course football. There's even talk of what ended Dino's career - for a time.
Please remember to leave us an iTunes review if you haven't done so already. Cheers!

Yes! Excellent stuff, I love Kick Off.
I cant wait to listen to this interview tomorrow!
Superb!
I like the talk on the decision of how he made the game scroll on the ST due to the hardware differences to that of an Amiga.
Looking forward to part 2.
I would love to hear an interview from Richard Aplin, now that he's on the forum:)
I'll see what we can do... Or if someone can point Richard in this threads direction :)

Yeah, me too. Nice reminder of the similarity between the ST and the CPC (and the pain coders feel!).
Also was interesting to hear Dino talk about the chip design and how easy it would have been to implement some features.
In this Episode we have our first of hopefully many auditions for the co-host slot on the podcast. Our first audition is Captainblood7 from the retro asylum forums, who has done a great job on his audition.

I doubt you plugged the Spectrum +2A PSU into the RGB output. The pins don't line up, you'd need a hammer to get it in.
Bryce.
Hopefully not, I just know what Andy is like :)

In this episode, the Retro Asylum Podcast team along with a few RA forum members, find themselves at the greatest retro gaming expo ever "Revival".
The lads not only had a great time at the event, playing arcades and consoles but also managed to record a podcast at the event.
This episode is slightly different to our usual episodes as it's more of a round table discussion about the event and retro gaming. Big thanks to Chris Wilkins and the whole Revival team for putting on the best retro gaming event that we have been to so far.

Last 2 episodes have been really insightful. Anyone here thinking of auditioning?
Great work!
The latest episode is clocking in at nearly 2 hours and is fantastic. This is another episode that has gone into my favourites with lots of CPC talk.
And continuing his amazing work, they have a pair of nice short interviews in their web with Richard Aplin (http://retroasylum.com/an-interview-with-richard-aplin/) and Mike Lamb (http://retroasylum.com/an-interview-with-mike-lamb/).
