...and here you thought the 464 was the first...

And not only that, it also had a TAPE HOLDER!!!! Oh the luxury!

ca1978.

I like the idea of the tape holder.  Simple but nice to keep a few of your fave tape games handy.  I can't day I'm fond of those tiny keys with big spaces between them but overall I still find this quite charming in that nostalgic vintage computer way decades before every device started to all just resemble flat generic slabs.
Favorite CPC games: Count Duckula 3, Oh Mummy Returns, RoboCop Resurrection, Tankbusters Afterlife

There were quite a few in the USA that had built in tape players. Wasn't there even a CBM Pet with one?

Not forgetting the TWIN tape decks of the Coleco Adam:

Yes there was indeed (tape deck on left side IIRC), but I had to lead in somehow :)

If the CPC had a tape holder like the Interact, it would be difficult to choose which 3 cassettes out of the thousands available, to put in the holder. :)

At least the PLUS only had 24/25 cartridges to accomodate.:)

Carnivius

Just the top three you play the most I suppose. :P

Hm, that Coleco Adam looks nifty too.

Speaking of the tape holder and form-following-function, I remember seeing in Core Memory, an exceptional book/album, a phhoto of some workstation console from the sixties used in defense installations. Its most interesting feature? An embedded... ashtray! That little touch was pure genius :D

Not really, a few C90's loaded with tape-to-tape'd games is all you would have needed

but no tape counter makes the c90 a pain in the plus!

There were even portable machines with integrated tapedeck before the CPC. The Epson HX-20 even had a printer integrated too.

There's the Commodore PET 2001 too which came out in 1977.
