::)  Can't you be serious? I did ask about the game. I'm curious how much memory it needs. Also if it uses some special features of SymbOS or if it *could* run in principle on a plain CPC.

At the moment the game requires about 30k (mainly as it has the side effect of including the symbasic code with it). This code not any graphics, which are externally spat out by symstudio onto the .dsk. The graphics however are something different and with dozen or so background images weighing in 16k (MSX) 8K Cpc, plus a ton more its hit and miss if this will fit on a CPC .DSK. the 720k of the MSX is filling slowly.

I tend to look at this as new type of game in that the amount of graphics we can load in doesn't matter much anymore. Bigger prettier games

How should the second be possible? A SymbOS application doesn't know anything about the screen layout, how memory bankswitching works, how to check the keyboard etc. etc. The only thing it knows is, that it's running on a Z80 ;) ...inside a SymbOS environment. That made it possible to run the same app in Mode 1 and 2 on a CPC, made it possible to run multiple apps in dynamic memory areas - as more memory you have as more apps you can run. And since 2006 to run these apps without modifications on an MSX, too, and later on the PCW.
That's the difference to many native CPC programs, which doesn't make much use of an OS (maybe beside the loader) but have their own low level routines, which access the hardware directly in a completely system specific way. Such CPC apps can usually be started in any OS, as long as the hardware is exactly a CPC, as they don't care about the OS.

Yes, that's right. Most "impressive" prods use their own "BIOS/BDOS" - low level routines. The advantage is of course they can be very specific and therefore quick. The disadvantage is that: "You have to invent the wheel again" and that you waste a lot of RAM too. It's amazing to see that SymbOS is so quick that it can run games eventually. I thought translating GFX f.e. would take too much time. But if I look at the video, then I really must say "Hats off". Keep the good work going.  :)

@arnoldemu: Did not you have a more or less working version ported from speccy? But after the Repton problems, you decided no publish it or at least that is how i remember it... maybe you could do as 40Crisis and publish a patch to apply over the original zx tape image and you could get another thing less from your todo list and make us happy again ;)

True in all cases.

Well, i try to remember every exciting project like yours ;) ... and when happened the "repton affair", i felt really bad for you, because i know all the hard work behind these projects (i have passed too many hours disassembling and understanding code, too) and don't be able to release them, it's a shame, more even when you know that Atic Atac and Repton could look really great in CPC ;)

And i sincerely hope that in the future you can take a look again and maybe we can enjoy more of your work :)

TFM

Well, I would just change the name (and / or even pseudo) and release nevertheless. It's not like one would steal something, it's s/o's own creation.  :)
