Title: Tetris the movie
Post by: Gryzor on 09:18, 05 April 23
So I don't know if anyone's aware, but there's a movie  (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12758060/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1)on Apple TV based on the history of Tetris.

I was really excited when I saw it coming out on my, erm, totally legal downloads feed. When I saw it I scheduled it for that very night.

...and at the one-hour mark I just switched it off. Just don't bother.

The history itself is accurate at points, somewhat bungled at others, and complete (and silly) totally made up at the rest. The acting is over the top, the (nicely) drawn pixel gfx strewn throughout were made probably by someone in their twenties looking at pixel games on Steam, there's nothing new to learn from it (at least for as long as I watched). But the worst part was the overbearing depiction of the Soviets; it was like watching a propaganda piece from the 80s, and it's so damn cringey. Every room is dark, everyone is KGB and all the nice people want "Coca Cola and Levi's".

Give it a miss.  Not really worth your time, better read one of the several articles out there on the (admittedly, extremely interesting) history of Tetris.

Just to watch the trailer to see that is not accurate at all.

For retro-fan, how is it possible to show to the Nintendo CEO the game running on a Famicom, if the goal is that Nintendo port it to the Famicom? (and I don't speak about the fact the NES can't display more than 256x240. ;D)

BUT IT'S C (or whatever, Pascal? I don't remember), LET'S PRESS A COUPLE OF BUTTONS AND MAKE IT RUN!

Not to mention the totally-production-unit but ribbon-connected prototype Gameboy (thank God they didn't show the serial on the back).

I mean, it's ok if you want to waste some time, but I had much better things to do (like watching Slow Horses or falling asleep).
