Title: The Apple PIIe
Post by: Starglider on 02:52, 25 June 18
Proud to share a project I've been working on a while: The Apple PIIe. When I got an empty Apple IIe case, I wanted it to *fully* emulate the machine it once was! [emoji6] I hope this continues to invigorate interest in restoring vintage computers! [emoji106][emoji973]️[emoji519][emoji508] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4ZBjMCGF80

The Apple //e — the computer that was too expensive for anyone you knew to own. Unless, like the ZX Spectrum in Dundee, you knew someone in Cork who could nick you one from the factory.

My aunt had one back in the 80s for the static analysis of buildings (she is an architect).
To complete a single job, it would take a couple of days!

Haven't seen much else running on that thing...

My Dad used it mainly for spreadsheets. Seemed to do the job!

Sorry scruss but I'm missing the connection, Dundee - Scotland, Cork - Ireland.

Cheers,

Peter

The ZX Spectrum was built in a factory in Dundee. Locals were supposedly known to have suddenly acquired one from someone they knew who worked in the factory. The Apple IIe was built in a factory in Cork..... So did those locals have the same "benefit" (unlikely, because unlike the ZX, sticking a IIe under your jumper on the way home would be rather difficult).

Oh I dunno: I'm sure plenty of IIe boxes "walked".
A friend's dad in Scotland allegedly got a full IBM PS/2 Model 55sx system after backing his car into a certain bay at Spango Valley with the boot unlocked with a £50 note in it ...

In other news, I turned a Nintendo Wii into an Apple //e. Also cost about $50 [emoji6] Introducing the Apple W//e! https://youtu.be/MdCp2W6XhVI

That's a lovely project, but all that empty space in the case begs to be used...

I'm going to offer the winner of the machine the option to keep the challenge going I think...
