Just wondering where you guys buy your retro games from?
I've recently got a nes and want to start buying some games for it but Jesus Christ the price of them is shocking.
I've mainly been looking on eBay but the decent games are just so expensive.
Has anyone had any luck finding nes/snes games in any charity shops?
Amibay -> Ebay -> Facebook groups!
Not keen on retro shops as they usally sell for the highest ebay prices, such a rip :(
My local charity shop's had a couple of NES and quite a few Gameboy games. I been told they don't like selling cartridges or game tapes though because they don't usually have the hardware available to check the game still works and any game-breaking damage is a lot harder to see than, for example, scratches on CDs/DVDs/Blu-Rays.

Not a massive place, tends to have a little bit of all kinds of stuff. Prices seem fairly reasonable, I've gotten a few bargains on unboxed Megadrive carts there in the past.
I find that Nintendo stuff is generally pretty pricey, makes me kind of glad I was always more of a Sega person :)

That's a cool bit of kit, but to be honest I actually like owning the actual game.

I don't think I have ever seen anything amstrad related in any Irish charity type shop. Although my unblemished, unyellowed 464plus dd come from a UK charity shop, via E-bay.

I phoned around several local charity shops today to ask about retro games, specifically Nintendo and most of them said that they get thrown away because they can't test them.
Crazy and sad to think at what gems could have just been binned not to mention the money that they could have got for them.

Oh, nice. I find out tonight I have to go back to Eastleigh for some training in the next week or 2. If I am over for a weekend, I might head into Bournemouth to visit my sister. Is it in Winton or Bournemouth itself?
I tend to buy from Amibay, ebay or some friends :D If you class PS2 and Xbox as retro I've used C.E.X in the past.

The most I've found over on the West Coast is a couple of PS2 games in charity shops. I once saw a dusty 464+ in an antiques shop in Cork about 6 years ago and wish I'd bought it now. There was a retro shop in Cork for a year or 2 but it was very overpriced.

It's in Winton, on Wimborne Road, not too far away from where the old Video Games Centre used to be.
Cool, I think I just about remember where that is. Didn't the Video Games Centre used to do the import games for a while before Nintendo got all stupid about it? If it is, I bought my Pocketstation from there new for £70 lol. On reflection I wish I'd put the money towards the PC Engine GT's they had in the store at the time... :laugh:
Yeah, they used to specialise in imports, I used to like going in there just to gawp at all the Japanese Megadrive games with the cool artwork that we didn't get over here.
Nothing left in any of the Irish charity shops but endless copies of Fifa for more recent consoles :'(
Although I did see a Mac classic in a shop window in Galway a few months ago.
Have to buy everything online these days, thankfully 'Parcel Motel' makes UK purchases a lot easier particularly large stuff like jamma boards.

I buy games from these guys all the time nintieskid come in and have a rummage – Nineties Kid (http://www.ninetieskid.co.uk) they're really helpful and honest, i brought my brother a minter mega drive from them for his birthday to start him collecting his was well chuffed because as kids i always nicked his one :laugh:

Unfortunately the Radofin is nothing special and a bit ugly, shame they don't have more stuff. But thanks nonetheless :)
