Tired of people bashing at CPC games it's time to talk about real rubbish.
- Mutant Camels is terrible on c64 (while very well done on Atari XL)
+1
Ha Ha. ;)

Definitely. It was my favourite game on the 800XL but just terrible on the C64.
Bryce.
Another insult of the eye is: Forbidden Forest
c64:
The Get Down - Forbidden Forest Review and Gameplay (Commodore 64) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fxb2YXYE140#ws)
Robocop 2. What were they thinking?
C64 Longplay - Robocop 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6r-eiDYiV48#ws)
Good example: terrible animation, terrible sound. Way better on CPC. :)
I find the Spectrum version of RoboCop 2 to be the best one out of the three 8-bitters if I'm honest even if it's lacking in colour. The CPC version is Plus only and not actually all that fun to play I find. The stupid jumping bits are far too infuriating. At least the Spectrum version lets me kill some bad guys before having annoying jumping (I'll still never understand why some RoboCop games even haaaave jumping. Mine frickin' ain't. RoboCop is not a jumper... )
But yeah that C64 version is just bizarre...

Excellent, lol with the spider :P
Good point, Robocop is not made to jump. Walking stairs is ok, but jumping? No! ;-)
for me the only thing the C64 had over the CPC was the sound chip.

No, what about the vivid colours, the superior keyboard, the RGB output and it's own screen... Oh wait, they were all CPC advantages too :)
Bryce.
Didn't the C64 only have a GB output? Grey-Brown?
Oh wait... RGB is right: Really Grey Brown
Compared to the fair CPC version Ikari warriors suxx on c64:
Ikari Warriors - Quicksilver Software - USA Version - Commodore 64 C64 gameplay video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DI6-RKRbBdI#)
How about Chase HQ? CPC version at 5:40, c64 crappiness begins at around the 8-min point. Even the music is crap!
8bit wars - Chase HQ. - YouTube (http://youtu.be/uUssbG0Nt2A)
Indeed... Reaaaally poor version on the C64 :)
Nice speccy version.

There were 2 versions. The US one which isn't good, then there is the UK version which is fantastic
and includes the 2 player mode.

Actually not a bad game, but unplayable slow on c64:

The CPC version proves the power of the Z80!
Also Burnin Rubber looks like a basic game:

You often get that when you port an arcade game from 1982... (aka Bump 'n Jump)
hah yeah I was gonna say that's not the same Burning Rubber. Just has the same name. :P
Ok, gentleman can't trick you that easy. Or like my girlfriend always says... smarter than the average bear ;-)

I was never a fan of Freescape (or most early 3D graphics) but I found it somewhat interesting at the time and the fact the CPC was used to develop it is really cool.
The Freescape engine is awesome for its time!
There's no way you could do a shooter with it, but the engine was best in the puzzle/adventure genre.
I remember reading an article where one of the Realtime Games guys (i.e. those that did Starglider and Carrier Command) stated that they could speed it up still. I wish they'd been given such an assignment.
I never got deep in Freescape games, but when AA gave a demo of Total Eclipse on its cover tape, I remember being all 'wha... wow... what is this?!!".

Oh yeah I had that. Like I said before I found it somewhat interesting at first but I far preferred detailed and smoother moving 2D stuff to plain-looking, sparse and sluggish 3D. Still, it's all a notable part of computer graphics history.
I think it is well acknowledged that Chase HQ is crap on the c64. In fact the only way to play it at a decent speed is to run it under WinVice at 200% :)
But seriously I like to say that by having many 8 bit systems you can have the best version of each game rather putting all your egg's in one basket.
Since using the Amstrad I can play Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Starglider, 3d Starstrike at decent frame rates which are much better versions than the c64.
But then again the 64 was not designed with 3d vectors in mind but its hardware scrolling is second to none (Uridium, Paradroid or Mayhem in Monsterland anyone ;) )
But just to show I can bash the 64 better than anyone there were some howlers. Bionic Granny, Krazy Kong, Red Heat, Chase HQ.
But I now embrace all 8 bit machines for their strengths and weaknesses :D
PS - I will get off my soapbox now lol ;)
Well said!
Thanks Buddy ....... Off to have another bash on Empire Strikes Back :D

i pretty much hated everything c64 except for speedball 1. there was a car racing game on c64 that was very poor graphically the cars looked like toothbrushes but for some unknown reason it was quite fun playing against a friend for the honor of being the king of toothbrush racing..... have no idea what it was called ?
Are you sure it wasn't really a toothbrush...? Tooth Invaders - C64-Wiki (http://www.c64-wiki.com/index.php/Tooth_Invaders) :D
